On September 12th, join us and help support #EndDigitalPovertyDay So, what is Digital poverty (According to the Digital Poverty Alliance) It is the inability to interact with the online world fully, when, where, and how an individual needs to. The alarming reality is that 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children in the UK are digitally excluded. This divide exacerbates socio-economic disparities, severely limiting access to education, employment, and social interaction. When covid struck, digital exclusion came into the spotlight, before this change many organisations like us had been struggling to get noticed. However, since Covid this has now changed a lot. Our recycling side of the business helped with this; we have donated 1017 devices since Covid. 😮 One aspect from our recycling devices showed that there was a lack of activities in given areas and that is why at the moment our main focus is our digital training and workshop activities. Our recycling hasn’t finished, and we are still donating a few devices, It was only last week another device was sent to a BAME Carer from a referral from Lanarkshire Carers. In the near future we will look to focus on this again as again it is something that is much needed. Today David Kerr and I attended an online event hosted by #DigiRen24 and Audit Scotland Audit Scotland presented their findings from the first ever Digital Exclusion Audit Report in Scotland and it was very interesting. The event highlighted the importance that of those who are digitally excluded and the severe impact this has on lives. Some statistics shown was that 51% had a disability and 55% was from deprived areas, two key areas we are keen to help and support. 😥 At the same time though there are some brilliant organisations across Renfrewshire doing amazing things with regards to trying to bridge the digital skills gap. It was good to listen to the stories and feedback from them. Another important point that was mentioned was with regards to safety on the internet. Remember one of our online sessions available is Raising awareness on this subject and especially for those who are vulnerable. 🤔

What a wild idea to launch a basic income program using mobile money transfers in West Africa. It started under odd circumstances, leaving Sierra Leone just before the country went into lockdown. Over the three years that followed, while the pandemic absorbed most of the world’s attention, we steadily worked with great minds to build the foundation for this initiative and to code the open source software that powers Social Income – and hopefully other UBI or cash transfer projects in the future. Two things that particularly delight me about Social Income: 1. Seeing individuals who contribute 1% of their income, often newcomers to the idea of regular donations, embrace SI as a new way of living in solidarity with people born in some of the toughest places on earth – also the most affected by climate change. Any one of us could have been born there. And were we to be in that situation, wouldn’t we appreciate that others believed in our ability to lift ourselves out of poverty? 2. Working alongside inspiring colleagues with experience across the corporate landscape. They have dedicated their unique talents to a cause outside of the workplace. When broken down to its simplest form, Social Income is mostly a question of committing the time to engage. Everyone has their own specific skill-set, everyone is aware of inequality and poverty, but it takes time to do something about it. We don’t say 1% is enough; we say it is a start. If we can get 1% of the Swiss populations to spend 1% of their income, then I’ve reached my personal goal. Take action on socialincome.org
Having raised over $250,000 and distributed more than 3,100 basic incomes, we are more convinced than ever that people living in poverty know best how to lift themselves out of it—if they have the necessary financial means. 🎬 Listen to what recipients in Sierra Leone have to say in the video about receiving a Social Income for three years. 🚨 It's so important to say this: Our initiative is driven by volunteers dedicated to ensuring that the most vulnerable have a fair chance of building meaningful lives. Active and former volunteers such as: Juan Carlos Morales, András Heé, Sandino Scheidegger, Aurélie Schmiedlin, Julia Bachmann, Kerrin Dieckmann, Larissa D., Michael Kündig, Mikołaj Demków, Pranav Chatur, Riccardo Tamburini, Verena Zaiser, Flavien Meyer, Kabelo Ruffo, MBA, Marion Quartier, Simone Huser, Ajla Murati, Alexandre Milan, Anders Nordhag, Anna-Lina Müller, Lorenzo Garovi, Patrik Sopran, Mabel Ironn Sky Turay, René Stalder, Sarah Mekni, Sarvesh Dwivedi, Simon Bühler, Thomas Brenner, Patrick McClurg and many more who are not on LinkedIn. ❤️ Thank you for the donations, support, and expertise: GitHub, Tides, JetBrains, Google, R17 Ventures AG, Milk Interactive AG, drand, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and ETH NADEL Center for Development and Cooperation. 🎬 Credits: DoP Gabriel Koller, Editor Nicolas Küng, Design & Music Tidiane Sane, Mix & Mastering Nicola-Miloš Mišić, Colorist Simon Hardegger, Narrator Ted Limpert. #DirectMoneyTransfer #UBI #BasicIncome #CashTransfer #FinancialInclusion #SierraLeone #MoneyTransfer #DigitalPayments #FinancialEmpowerment #EconomicJustice #ActNow #FinancialAid #EndPoverty #Impact #SDG1 #SDG10 ➔ Get involved: socialincome.org

Applications for the D-Prize Global Competition 2024 are now open. They seed new organizations distributing proven poverty solutions, all aiming to scale. D-Prize is looking for entrepreneurs who can design a new nonprofit or social venture that distributes an existing poverty solution to thousands, maybe even millions of people. They have identified over a dozen products and services known to alleviate poverty. They now challenge entrepreneurs to design ways to distribute to people in need. Eligibility • D-Prize is for new organizations. Most of their awardees are first-time entrepreneurs. Most have not yet launched their organization, nor have they raised other funding. • They especially encourage those from low-and-middle income countries to apply. • They will consider applications from existing organizations only if your core focus is distributing an existing and evidence-based poverty intervention. • They typically will not support organizations with more than 18 months of full-time operations or that have raised more than $30,000 USD in outside funding. Application Take a look at the current D-Prize challenges, and then download an application. https://lnkd.in/d_wyK3ac • Regular Submission Deadline: 14 July 2024 at midnight PT (Pacific Time) • Extension Deadline: 4 August 2024 at midnight PT (Pacific Time) Do you need professional help for grant writing or applying for grant opportunities? SDG 10: REDUCED INEQUALITIES Reduce inequalities within and among countries. South Africa is (among) the most unequal countries in the world, with a small minority holding a large majority of the country’s wealth. The ReStory Foundation aims to reduce inequalities through empowerment of the most marginalised and challenging charitable giving that unintentionally exacerbates inequalities. We journey with orphans and vulnerable children, their caregivers and unemployed young adults to change trajectories. Our extensive programmes range from maths and literacy, to computer skills to practical and business skills to unlocking creativity. Most vital is trauma resilience for all to enable a move away from the victim mindset. Throughout is the thread of enabling courageous agents of change who choose to build their lives, their community and the wider world. The message is that material poverty does not define your contribution- as assertiveness and agency grows, so is each person’s God-given purpose ignited. Through this trajectories are changed. Charitable giving can unintentionally increase inequality by making people feel less than. This increases poverty of being. Research by Stanford University Professor, Robert Sapolsky, found that an increase in feeling less than negatively impacts health, education and choices far more than an actual increase in material poverty. Through our our HOPE Building Model©️, which includes our eye2eye©️, two-way giving approach, we challenge charitable givers to journey with the materially poor in a way that builds dignity, self-worth and empowerment, enabling long-term transformation. As the ReStory Foundation we are continually learning and refining our approach based on our lived experience in the community of Bhambayi, one of the most materially disadvantaged communities in South Africa, as well as international best practice. We long to see a nation that comes together as equals to build the future of our nation and all its people. #together2030 #2030NOW #LeaveNoOneBehind #SDGs #GlobalGoals #2030agenda

Attn : Gobal Youth Lovers Re: How you read? Back in the day, when a Liberian asked you “how you read” the correct response was “It’s wicked”. Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Today is the future we were talking about creating in the past. The question and answer to this simple yet complicated question can be found when we put our heads together, peel back the layers, and come up with a new set of questions that will tickle our youth investing funny bone. Collaboration with the right partners is so sweet! In the 90’s, roughly translated, the how you read question meant how do you see things. In today’s world, one’s mind could race to ‘what’s at stake’ for Liberia if we don’t get serious about improving our literacy rates, especially for women and girls! The latest stats informs us that Liberia’s literacy rate is still hovering at a low 48.3% Who is framing the questions? It’s wicked THEN meant it’s the right time to get our act together, NOW it’s wicked could mean it’s cruel not to immerse our children in culturally relevant, age appropriate reading, writing, & life skills training activities that could literally impact their world for the rest of their lives! What an irrisitable Call to Action for global youth champions everywhere. Umm how you read? It’s back again! (I am part of it again, too!) The 2024 Coachathon, a 24-hour, global coaching marathon is taking place on Wednesday 9th October 2024. I volunteer my time and offer 50-minute coaching sessions, one to one, in return for a £50 donation to MicroLoan Foundation. 100% of your session fee will be directly donated to MicroLoan. (Note: there’s a small Eventbrite fee when you register) MicroLoan Foundation supports women facing poverty in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They can access the loans, mentoring and training they need to start their own small businesses and thrive as entrepreneurs, and generate an income to feed their families, pay for healthcare and send their children to school. What I like most about Coachathon is that together we can inspire these women, their children and local communities to advance their lives and create brighter future. The ripples will extend beyond our lifetime. I am certain that the value we can create will exceed 1000x times (and more) our cash and time contributions. You can advance your life too! I can promise that I will bring the very best of me into each session. I have spent countless hours and made significant investment into my own transformation, development and skills. I am certain the value you will get from our time together will be many times over your cash investment. Guaranteed. You may wish to invite others to book a session and / or give them a gift and create an opportunity to advance their lives too. You can book the session directly in my calendar at https://lnkd.in/dR6dcFaf. When you book, I will send you all details, including instructions on how to contribute the donation, and prepare for our meeting so you can make the most out of your investment. Half-joking: if you think that £50 is too much, or that you can’t find 50 minutes to meet on that day, or that the cause is not right, or whatever might be the reason for not investing into yourself and advancing your life and the lives of others – changing your relationship to these thoughts is the very breakthrough you need. When you sign up, you will create that breakthrough immediately. You will create a different future for you and everyone else. If you have any questions, you can DM me and we will take it offline. Sending loving thoughts your way, Piotr

🌍 Hey everyone, let's talk about the tough financial issues facing low-income countries (LICs) and what we can do about it! Struggling with Money 📉 Debt Troubles: LICs have been dealing with a serious debt problem lately. Over the past ten years, their government debt has shot up like crazy because they're not bringing in enough money and they're spending too much. 🔍 Debt Distress: It's so bad that nearly half of LICs are on the verge of a debt crisis, which means they're struggling to pay back what they owe and still take care of important stuff like healthcare and education. Making Progress is Harder 🌐 Facing Big Challenges: LICs already had a lot on their plate, but things got even tougher with the pandemic, climate issues, and other global problems messing things up. Poverty reduction efforts have taken a hit, and things like gender equality have suffered. 🔍 Unequal Access: With money tight, essential services like healthcare and education are getting shortchanged, making life even harder for the most vulnerable people in these countries. What Can We Do? 🤝 Time to Act: LICs need our help more than ever. They've got to find ways to raise more money, spend it smarter, and fix some deep-rooted problems to get their economies back on track. 🔍 Managing Debts: It's crucial to find better ways to handle all that debt they've racked up. Maybe they need some relief or new strategies to keep things from getting worse. Moving Forward 🔍 Working Together: We've got to team up and support LICs in finding solutions. Whether it's fixing broken systems or giving them a hand to stand on, we can make a real difference. www.ashrafulaid.ca 🌱 A Brighter Future: By tackling these money problems head-on, we're not just helping LICs, but creating a fairer, more prosperous world for all of us. https://ashrafulaid.org/ #MoneyTroubles #GlobalChallenges #LetsHelp #FairFuture #CommunitySupport #GlobalSolutions #StandTogether #MakeADifference
