Dear all, It’s my pleasure to share that for the second time I managed to get published in a peer-reviewed academic journal. The present work co-written with my father Pf. Laurent de Briey investigates a new policy proposal in the Belgian context: The Multiple Proportional Vote (MPV). The key idea of the MPV is that, within a country in which there are different communities such as Belgium, alongside their normal vote for the representatives of their communities, individuals will also have a vote (weighted less of course) on the election of the representative of the other community. The point is to provide an incentive to politicians of each community to take into account the interests of the other community. In the paper, we compare such a proposal with one of its main alternatives: the federal constituency. Thanks to a numerical simulation, we also show different ways of implementing it and the different resulting outcomes. If such a paper is quite far away from my more abstract current research areas, it has the advantage of being directly relevant to Belgian politics. If people currently involved in the federal government negotiations are looking for new ideas, here is one.

In our latest post, MPhil student Viktoria Sochor reviews Alexander Thiele's recent book, which examines the debate on institutional reform within the European Union. Amid growing calls for EU institutional reform to achieve strategic autonomy, act effectively and prepare for future enlargement, Thiele examines five prominent reform proposals. His analysis focuses on their relevance and feasibility, addressing specific legitimacy deficits in each case and providing insights into the EU's potential future. Full title of the book: Defekte Visionen. Eine Intervention zur Zukunft der Europäischen Union (loosely translated as: Broken Visions. An Intervention on the Future of the European Union https://lnkd.in/eU4dSgxs
