Interesting results from a recent survey that show why we should be going beyond just looking at gender diversity at non-equity partnership level and should also be examining the gender composition of our full-equity positions. Disappointingly, women still only account for 28% of full-equity partners.

In a significant development, recent figures reveal a noteworthy shift in the legal industry, with women surpassing men in the number of associates at U.S. law firms in 2023. Survey data from the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) highlights that 50.3% of U.S. associates were women last year, marking a historic milestone. The data, based on NALP's directory of legal employers, signifies progress since 1991 when women comprised just over 38% of law firm associates.
