Golf was both the best and worst answer to a question about childcare- when you consider terms like “golf widow” exist for a reason. Having a faceoff about handicaps and driving distance in a sport that requires hours of time on the course and away from family to improve at… is a great example of how out of touch politicians are with the day to day managing families are doing in the midst of this childcare crisis. 15,000 moms signed Moms First’s petition to even get the question into the debate. There are over 50 million families in the US, too many for maternal health and paid family leave to not be front and center for both candidates. The didn’t address either topic. In the past Biden has spoken about his experience with childcare after losing his wife and daughter, saying he took the train to DC because he could afford a train ticket but not childcare. This was in 1972. He was a senator. He was able to continue working because his sister and brother in law moved into his home to help with his boys. Another privilege that many American families don’t have- free help from family members. Let’s not forget the impact on sandwich caregivers- those raising kids in a childcare crisis while also providing more unpaid caregiving hours for aging adults than medicaid. Childcare costs more than rent in all 50 states. The birth rate is declining and has been for several decades. We all saw how far off the balance was during the pandemic. Time for a plan.

Question: Do you know who Australia’s Head of State is? Answer: King Charles III We had some fun on ‘The Jury’ on Sky News Australia this week talking about Australia’s Head of State and Australian Republic. Only trouble was, we ran into a major hurdle - head of the monarchists, Eric Abetz tried to pretend that King Charles is not Australia’s Head of State! Even producing the appropriate clause in the Constitution wasn’t enough. Truthfully, it wasn’t a suprise. Attempts to avoid conversation about the monarchy’s suitability to represent contemporary Australia are understandable, since over 75% of Australians believe that Charles does not represent us, or our culture. Nonetheless, as I pointed out on the show, our intention is not to demonise Charles, or Australians who love the monarchy. Quite the opposite. We want to be honest but respectful of our history and all those who have contributed. We’re all Australians and can all work together to find the right path to our full independence as a country and will continue to let all Aussies know, we respect you and your views. Yes, including Eric. It’s less about Charles, and all about us. In future though, perhaps we can ground the conversation in reality, and stick to the book called the Australian Constitution?

America is experiencing Mass Psychogenic Illness. It is described as the rapid spread of illness signs and symptoms affecting members of a cohesive group, Researchers say those affected are prone to extraversion or neuroticism, or those with low IQ scores, are more likely to be affected in an outbreak of hysterical epidemic, although it has not been consistently proven so far. Bartholomew and Wessely state that it "seems clear that there is no particular predisposition to mass sociogenic illness and it is a behavioural reaction that anyone can show in the right circumstances." Intense media coverage seems to exacerbate outbreaks. The illness may also recur after the initial outbreak. John Waller advises that once it is determined that the illness is psychogenic, it should not be given credence by authorities. For example, in the Singapore factory case study, calling in a medicine man to perform an exorcism seemed to perpetuate the outbreak. This is why many are puzzled why illogical people who idolize Trump cannot be convinced otherwise and any effort to use logic in their idol worship seem to exacerbate the problem. God help America.
