As we begin our winter throwing on-ramp for our athletes who played fall ball remember that throwing more, not less, is a good thing Tournament baseball & showcases are here to stay As long as there's money to be made & people continue to buy the product, they'll continue Young players are pitching more than ever before (high stress) & playing catch less than ever before (low stress) Many players that I interact with pitch & play on weekends & then throw only once during the week before playing again on the next weekend This is the exact opposite of what you should be doing Throwing volumes should be 75% low-intensity catch play & 25% high-intensity competition reps Players today are competing with a volume of high-intensity reps that is too high for their level of throwing endurance If you're competing on the weekends, you should be playing catch at least four days a week. Building your foundation for competition starting now will keep you on the field and competing to win in the spring!

Football season is here! I know I’m a baseball guy, but, I love me some college football…especially my Iowa Hawkeyes and LSU Tigers! Everything seems to turn into a competition this time of year…fantasy football, people arguing about whose team is better, my kids flexing about how big their fish is! 🤣 But here’s the big reminder I get every time a major sports season starts: your competition isn’t other people. It’s YOU. My competition is my procrastination…my ego…my neglect…my negativity. I can’t compete at the highest level in ANYTHING until I’ve conquered the things distracting me. What gets your competitive juices flowing? Mental Performance Coach for players in the NBA, NCAA, LKL, French Pro A, Pro B and some of the best prospects in Europe. Host of the Mind Game of Basketball podcast. Author of the Mental guide « 1 on 1 with yourself »
In last night’s game between the LA Clippers and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Gobert started shooting 30% on his first 10 attempts on the free throw line (3/10), air balling one of them, but managed to take his responsibilities by scoring 4/4 in the last minute to seal the game (100-103 to 100-107) while the Clippers were making a run for a come back. That shows character and self confidence. How players react to their previous lack of performance by refocusing on the present moment and what they control shows their ability to perform under pressure. Players who develop mental skills have the ability to not be affected by the environment (in this case the Clippers’ bench looking to troll Gobert after the air ball). A player who shoots 4/4 in the last minute when the game is a close one, after shooting 3/10 the rest of the game, is a player who stays locked in. Now, does Gobert need to work on his free throws? Definitely. But he has proven he had the character to show up in clutch times and this will build a precedent which will give him a real bagage of confidence for the upcoming games. #themindgameofbasketball #freethrows #airball #trolling #selfconfidence #refocus #clutch #howyoureacttofailure #playersdevelopment

How Aaron Judge Turned His Season Around in Just Two Weeks Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees' powerhouse, had a rocky start to the 2024 season. With a batting average that dipped to .179 and an OPS of .682 through the first 21 games, fans and analysts alike were concerned. However, in just two weeks, Judge has managed to turn things around dramatically, looking like his old self once again. What changed? Judge's recent hot streak can be attributed to a few key adjustments: Timing and Mechanics: After struggling with his timing early in the season, Judge made subtle changes to his stance and swing mechanics. These adjustments have helped him connect better with fastballs, especially those on the outer third of the plate. Mental Resilience: Despite the early-season slump, Judge remained confident and focused. His ability to stay mentally strong and not let the pressure affect his performance has been crucial. Consistent Practice: Judge's dedication to extra batting practice and his willingness to make necessary tweaks have paid off. His hard work is evident in his improved exit velocity and reduced pop-up rate. In his last 18 appearances, Judge has posted a 1.146 OPS with seven home runs, bringing his season slash line to .235/.369/.497. This remarkable turnaround is a testament to his skill, determination, and the support of his coaching staff. #Baseball #AaronJudge #Yankees #Coaching #BaseballCoaching #PlayerDevelopment #MentalToughness #SportsPerformance #MLB #BaseballLife #CoachingTips

Advanced stats are changing how sports are played, especially in my specialties of baseball and basketball. But as a journalist, they can be hard to write about without readers' heads swimming in numbers and keeping my word count low. That said, it was necessary to use "park factor" to explain how $400 million in renovations have changed how baseball is played at Rogers Centre, the home of the Toronto Blue Jays. By using anecdotal evidence provided by some of the players as an introduction I think I was able to write about this advanced stat in a digestible way. https://lnkd.in/dAYMCWWb
