This time last year, 27th of March 2023, was the date I officially arrived in Dili, Timor-Leste to commence my 3-month consultancy role as a Senior consultant for the Procurement & Logistics department with CARE International in Timor-Leste. As a young Papua New Papua New Guinea, I took this opportunity seriously and delivered what was required of my role. Timor-Leste (for those who do not know) is located in South East Asia, next to Indonesia and commonly known for speaking the languages - Tetum, Bahasa Indonesia and Portuguese. The experience in Timor-Leste really helped me to be more strategic in my approach, built my capacity to a greater level and has equipped me to have a more broader understanding of the organization's operation both in PNG and abroad. I am always thankful to my first and also current employer for having the trust and belief in me to reach higher heights. Below are some encouragements I'd like to share for other young, striving professionals : 1. Read and understand the company/organization policies well and apply them practically to your role. Most of the time, these are standard policies and procedures, not contextualized to your local setting. 2. Always ask questions when you are not sure. 3. Pay very close attention to details 4. Be innovative and creative in your work but ensure it is line with policies, standards and procedures. 5. Learn to do more than what is outlined in your job description. In this way, you are showing that you are capable of taking on larger duties and challenges. 6. Always celebrate your small wins and progress. 7. Accept corrections from your colleagues and learn from them. 8. Always look at challenges positively and see them as opportunities. 8. Try to have fun while carrying out your tasks. You shouldn't stress yourself way too much. I just thought of sharing this and hope this motivates other young Papua New Guineans to bring out the best in all they do in their respective field of work. So i happen to one time work in a company where staff race dominance was from one Asian country followed by Philippines and a few Africans I being one of the few Africans. The majority race were so scared about an African or Philippine raise into a position of management. The company itself is very nice company BUT due to superiority complex from one Asian dominant race, other very productive staff from other parts of the world could not stay long and now it happened that the company is just a place to gain experience and leave. No motivation and no nothing. Promotion is given to fellows who cannot spell their own names in English until the management being from that one dominant country decided to introduce their native language to boost their own country men. No any other nationality can get promotion unless they really look around and completely lack one person from their background. My question to the Hr People on this space,is this a proper way of managing and running a company?

In 2020, about 1.86 million Malaysians (5.6% of the national population) have chosen to live abroad. Out of this, 3.3% (1.13 million) migrated to Singapore. They had either secured jobs, married, travelled daily or resided in Singapore, according to Talent Corporation Malaysia. The Singapore dollar (SGD) continuous strengthening against the Ringgit (+13.6% since Covid-19) has led to a surge of Malaysian job seekers applying for positions in Singapore. There is a notable interest in positions within the engineering and manufacturing industries for those with relevant technical skills. On Feb 19, Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) survey revealed that 83% of Malaysian workers in Singapore and Brunei are of skilled and semi-skilled categories. Reasons include: higher salaries, favourable exchange rates, better employment opportunities and improved working environments. Inversely, referring to the 2019 Hays Asia Overseas Returnees Report, challenges faced by returning Malaysians include unsustainable remuneration, unsuitable job opportunities, lack of familiarity with local job market conditions, and difficulties for foreign spouses and children in adapting to the culture.
