But right now across Australia, children as young as 10 can be arrested by police, charged with an offence, hauled before a court and locked away in a prison. We know these laws are harming children at a critical time in their lives. When children are forced through a criminal legal process, at such a formative time in their development, they can suffer lifelong harm to their health, wellbeing and future. Together we are making a huge difference. We have seen the ACT Government commit to raise the age, and there are promising signs in several other states. We will not stop until the federal government and every state and territory has changed the law raising the minimum age of criminal responsibility to at least 14." As we celebrate Juneteenth soon, a day that marks the end of chattel slavery in America, it's important to remember that the fight for true freedom and justice is ongoing. Modern-day slavery still exists within our prison system, where mass incarceration and forced labor perpetuate systemic injustices. Our work is far from over. Together, we can push for reforms to end these practices and ensure a just and equitable society for all. Let's honor the spirit of Juneteenth by continuing the fight for true freedom. #Juneteenth #EndModernSlavery #CriminalJusticeReform

Today starts the week of action for #RaiseTheAge. In one week, Attorneys-Generals from across the country are meeting to announce their plans for the minimum age of criminal responsibility. WACRSR joins voices around the nation urging them to comply with the UN recommendation that children should not be found criminally responsible, and especially not incarcerated, any younger than 14 years at minimum. We know this prevents healthy developmental growth and is likely to ensure a lifetime caught up in cycles of disadvantage. How can this be our best solution? Did you know that in Western Australia this can apply to a 10-year-old involved in a serious road offence? WACRSR hopes to see the day we can get these youth diverted into safety programs with wrap around supports to instead redirect them into healthier, safer pathways. All Australian voters need to give some thought to the way "the state" has been screwing over Australian children and young people - especially indigenous Australian children and young people, but not only. Elsewhere today there are questions being asked about the role of Australian State and Federal Governments stripping the assets and rights of young Australians. Here's a post that Aboriginal people should consider within the context of the decision to treat their children as criminals. The following is a cover note, with a link to the post on the role Indians are playing in stripping Aboriginal rights to water, within the wider context of senior Australian politicians engaged in stripping the rights and assets of young Australians:- "Are Indians welcome to country? Give some thought to the implications for young Aboriginal people and the loss of opportunities for their futures. The same issues are harming the future of young non-indigenous Australians too, but the negative impacts on young Aboriginals is far greater because of the relationship between Aboriginal tribes' rights to water and their 65,000 years long responsibility to care for the environment and for food security. If Aboriginal leaders can articulate the issues for young Aboriginals whilst also acknowledging the harm being caused to young non-indigenous Australians, that is a national leadership and Reconciliation opportunity that will resonate with all Australians. The Albanese Government has promised to use private sector entrepreneurialism to help Close the Gap. A starting point is to secure Aboriginal tribes' assets. Teamwork with non-indigenous Australians in the private sector will help. But someone needs to explain the problem and the solution." - See: https://lnkd.in/gz2CBrhN
“Today’s announcement is a major setback for the rights of Aboriginal children, who are dramatically over-represented in Victoria’s youth justice system" - Deputy Chair of Yoorrook, Adjunct Professor Sue-Anne Hunter Read Yoorrook's media statement on the government's backflip on raising the age of criminal responsibility: https://lnkd.in/gxhmP_qE #SpringSt #RaiseTheAge #YouthJustice

On Juneteenth, we honor the historic end of legal slavery in the United States, while recognizing the ongoing journey towards true freedom. Despite progress, the battle against slavery is far from over. Today, the scourge of slavery persists under different guises. In our prisons, Americans are subjected to forced labor for mere cents an hour, a stark echo of past injustices. According to the "Global Estimates of Modern Slavery: Forced Labour and Forced Marriage" (Geneva, September 2022), nearly 50 million people globally endure modern slavery, trapped in forced labor, human trafficking, debt bondage, domestic servitude, and forced marriage. Tragically, about a quarter of these victims are children. As we celebrate Juneteenth, let's reaffirm our commitment to eradicating slavery in all its forms, everywhere. Together, we can create a world where freedom truly prevails. #UntilWeAllAreFree

Just an Advocate for Equality in the U.K who speaks against corrupted policies that perpetuates discrimination in most sectors. All life is precious and important and needs to be respected and protected at all cost.
House of Commons, Justice Questions: https://lnkd.in/eP9TEvvK via @bbciplayer I was listening to these demons in power and found it quite funny how many of these funny people skirted around the issue of contraband and drugs entering prisons. How do you think drugs and other things such as mobile phones enter through prison gates? it's from those who work in the establishment and for about the 1% who manage to gets things through, oh well the guards slipped up there. But seriously, why ain't the government tackling the issue of corruption with those working under His Majesty's Services? Now you have prison guards! male and female so brazent to the point they are are getting caught having sex in inmates rooms and cupboards, and I was told by somebody in prison that female staff are offering up their fronts for the sake of it and getting told to clear off by non desparate inmates. If the prison service wasn't so inhumane pertaining to the living standards ide say something but maybe to those inmates actually in there, these corrupt practices unfortunately are maybe what are helping them to get through their daily sentence so I can't be too hard on those workers but the ones who are bringing drugs and weapons into prisons they should be faced with maximum punishment! It's ashame on all these MPs as alot of them really don't have a clue what they are doing and the poor general public are allowing their intelligence to be insulted time after time. People need to petition to get these crooked dodgy people out of their offices. As they are no more different to the ones they class as criminals! People really need to keep their eye on the ball concerning all the crooked legislation those in power are passing that are covertly stripping commoners of there legal rights!

News Report: "Police paedophile groomed, abused 50 boys over 30 years." What can child safe organisations learn from this? I started writing a post but I had too much to say so it has ended up as a blog. Cases like this are horrific, 50 known victims, decades of offending and so many missed opportunities to stop it. We must learn from cases like this. Across Australia we do have a roadmap for steps organisations can take to keep children safe, The National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (and related State/Territory based legislation), but these will only work if all staff and volunteers understand what they need to do to keep children safe. The quotes in this blog are from an article in the Northern Daily Leader (link to article in the blog). https://wix.to/Gqru2Iw
