The value of associations to society can not be overrated.
FSAE, Associations and several of our Members were featured in Florida Trend Media Company's February issue! They did a great write up on the power of associations and the work we do every day to improve the quality of life for all Floridians. Members Keyna Cory, Bennett Napier, MS, CAE, Paul Bebee, Mark Wilson and our very own Hester Ndoja, CAE are featured. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/erHXfJdT

I attended the annual Toward a More Competitive #Colorado (TMCC) event, hosted by Metro Denver EDC, in the company of my colleagues from our Avison Young office. High-level insights were shared from the 2024 TMCC Report and 2024 Economic Forecast for Metro Denver. Combined, both reports unpack the data highlighting Colorado's ability to compete for corporate attraction and business development. Takeaways include: 🔬 Continued expansion in aerospace, bioscience, and the healthcare industries. 🎒 Colorado maintains a highly educated workforce, yet there are opportunities to cultivate local talent and improve graduation rates. 📈 We're in the preliminary stages of an affordability crunch with home prices in the Denver MSA more than doubling between 2014 and 2022. 🏔 The vibrant lifestyle embedded in Colorado's culture has resulted in a population that surpasses national health standards. For a comprehensive dive into the data shaping Colorado's competitive edge, check out the full reports here: https://lnkd.in/g3D-Hv3e #TMCCreport #economicdevelopment #dmcc #datadriven

Great to be part of this Panel discussion at the #MEW2024 event in Swansea. Key points from my perspective, with a particular focus on The Crown Estate Round 5 process. - We already know lots about key consenting issues. We just need to access and apply this learning in a sensible and pragmatic way. - For existing and future key issues, strategic level studies should be the primary mechanism to resolve them (whilst recognising that project-level studies will also play a key role). - Collaboration is key. From optimising stakeholder engagement to methods of data collection to approaches to assessment.
Ceri Morris of Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales expertly chairing the final main auditorium session of the day on 'Consenting Innovative Projects' 🌎 Thanks to our panellists for some fascinating presentations and important points raised. Currently listening to Sarah Cooke describe the incredible outcomes of the Kirklees Better Outcomes Partnership. From putting people into boxes and gathering the data but missing the point, to applying Mayday Trust person-led and strengths-based approaches where every intervention starts with listening to the individual. This builds on five key changes: - new governance approach including voices of participants - culture change based on all 90 workers completing the Mayday training - new processes like assessments - systems change and innovation: removing barriers, joining up services - shared accountability and collective learning culture "We stopped looking at what people can't do and started looking with them for strengths and potential. We replaced a risk assessment with a wellbeing form; and the assessment form with the fundamental question, What do you want to do and how can we get you there?" Where communities mistrusted services, we talked with community organisations and recruited from those communities to lead the changes needed. Our coproduction panel has oversight and influences us from recruitment, to which contracts we pursue. When partner organisations fall behind, we coach and support them to reflect and change their practice, drawing on outcomes data and learning, rather than instruct or manage. The power of this approach shows that accommodation, employment and wellbeing outcomes are 70% higher than comparable approaches.

Great discussions today with section leaders at RMSO 2024 in Green Bay, WI on the Five Forces Driving the Future of Water ; Sustainability, Technology, Economics, Governance & Social/Demographics.
Our section leaders are spending a couple days at our treasured Lambeau Field with section leaders from across the Midwest for RMSO3. We’re kicking off with an intro from Jon Eaton, AWWA’s treasurer. It’s a foggy day here in Green Bay, but the field is just beyond our attendees by the club seats. We give this venue 10/10… Go, Pack, GO! Huge thanks to American Water Works Association for hosting this regional meeting and allowing us the time to learn and network among friends!

Presenting research at the AEHS West 33rd Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, and Air is an exhilarating opportunity, particularly when it involves groundbreaking work on a topic as critical as the impact of warfare on environmental health. This year, we have the privilege to share our study on the issue of heavy metal soil contamination on Iwo Jima's Invasion Beach, a site of immense historical significance from WWII, renowned for its distinctive black volcanic sand. Our research delves into a largely unexplored area, despite the beach's popularity and the common practice of collecting its sand as war mementos. The core of our investigation focuses on examining the heavy metal composition of the sand and debris through XRF analysis, a technique that promises to shed light on the potential contamination risks these souvenirs may pose. Through a detailed review of existing scientific literature on volcanic sands and the analysis of soil samples from areas affected by war, we aim to provide a thorough understanding of how warfare can leave a lasting mark on soil quality and contribute to contamination. Our study is not just a scientific inquiry; it's a call to action. We underscore the critical need for adopting sustainable and accurate armaments to reduce the ecological impact of warfare. While it may seem a distant goal to eliminate warfare entirely, minimizing its environmental consequences is an urgent and achievable aim. The contemporary context of ongoing conflicts, such as those in Ukraine and Gaza, makes our research not only relevant but vital. We advocate for further exploration into sustainable alternatives, like biodegradable ammunition, to foster environmentally responsible warfare practices. In conclusion, our presentation at the AEHS conference is not merely a dissemination of our findings but a message of the imperative to understand and mitigate the impacts of warfare on soil contamination. It's an exciting platform to highlight the necessity of sustainable practices in preserving our planet for future generations, making this opportunity not only thrilling but deeply meaningful.
