In Texas, there is a greater need for organ donation among communities of color, with more than 40% of people on the transplant waiting list being Hispanic. Organ donation can be a sensitive topic, but it's crucial to realize the immense impact your decision can have on others. By registering as an organ donor, you can help address the scarcity of organs and be a hero to those in need of life-saving transplants. Your selfless act can save up to eight lives. April 3 is #DonateLife Living Donor Day, providing a special opportunity to honor living donors for their selfless generosity and recognize the critical role they play in helping to address the shortage of organs for #transplantation. The last week of April is National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week. From April 21st to April 27th, Canadians across the country are encouraged to educate themselves and loved ones about the importance of organ donation. Each donor can save up to 8 lives, and with 4400 Canadians awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant, there is no better time to register than today. According to a recent poll, 90% of polled Canadians support tissue and organ donation, but only about 32% of people had registered to donate. As we continue to raise awareness, we can reduce the number of people that lose their life while waiting for a transplant. I am alive today because of some amazing people. My wife, Medical professionals, NSW Health and a loving and compassionate family who, at a time of tragic loss, found the strength to consent to Organ Donation. I am now and forever will be a passionate advocate for Organ Donation and the critical role families have in making the final decision to donate their loved one’s organs. The messaging and focus of the OTA is in desperate need of reform. As of today there is still no announcement on The Donatelife Community Partners? Today marks the end of April! But why is that significant? Let's talk funding applications for 2024. They opened back on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 10:00am AEDT, and they closed Friday, March 1, 2024, at 4:00pm AEDST. That gave everyone just 30 days to get their applications ready and submitted! 💼 According to DONATELIFE OTA's own website, successful applicants were supposed to be announced this month - April. But here we are, 60 days after the applications closed, and even those who didn't make it haven't been given any feedback! 🤔 It's just another example of an organisation in chaos. Despite the CEO being awarded an OAM for services to organ donation, the reality is quite grim. Consent, registration, and donation rates have been declining for six years. April is Organ Donation Awareness Month! We would love for you to get involved and support BC Transplant in raising awareness for organ donation and transplantation. Here are different ways to get involved: 1) Order a campaign kit and organize an event. 2) Participate in Green Shirt Day on April 7! Host an event at your school or workplace and inspire others to register. 3) Request a speaker and BC Transplant will connect you with a transplant recipient who can share their story. 4) Encourage students to hold a campaign to raise awareness for organ donation and apply for BC Transplant’s “Live Life. Pass It On.” Scholarship. 5) Share your story, re-share content and spread the word on an online platform. 6) Look out for the #LightUpGreen campaign where various monuments will light up green across the province for organ donation.
