Ready to Step Into The Spotlight? ⚡ Specialist PR for Attractions, Hospitality, The Arts & Municipal Governments | President @PinzurPR 📣 Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami
Crickets... That's the sound of zero media showing up to your event. I vividly remember securing a slew of press for an artist who created a giant mosaic of the U.S. flag to commemorate the first anniversary of 9/11. In the past, the press swarmed such occasions—newspaper reporters and photographers, TV hosts and cameramen, radio producers, and more—but times have changed. Today, media outlets operate with bare-bones crews. You’re lucky to get one TV journalist to show up, doing it all solo. Want to increase your chances of media coverage? 📹 Create a fully-packaged video with interviews and b-roll footage. Plus, follow these 5 additional tips: 1. Craft attention-grabbing story angles. 2. Provide high-quality photos and videos. 3. Offer journalists exclusive access or behind-the-scenes content. 4. Tailor your pitches to match the interests of specific journalists or media outlets. 5. Build relationships with journalists to enhance your coverage opportunities. PS: Have you faced media no-shows? "We are on the same team as the media" said Alan Nierob of Rogers & Cowan PMK. Sitting next to Alan as a panellist myself also earlier this week in Monaco, I totally agree with him. I have always thought since the early days of doing PR, that I really didn't mind talking to journalists and had the confidence to pick up the phone to them. Sometimes I really enjoyed listening to their points of view and learned a lot. Heck then I became a journalist after qualifying in PR! And all that still stands true today as I still have valuable relationships with journalists every week. ✅ There are many things to admire in journalists: 1) Their opinions and hopefuly most are well read 2) Their no BS attitude 3) Their realiability in meeting deadlines is A-game 4) They live their job 24/7 always abreast of current affairs 5) Their writing prose, grammar and literary skills 6) Their dedication to get to the truth 7) Their ability to listen 8) Their competitiveness 9) Their die-hard attitude to get a story (not all journalists are like that but alot are) ❌ What not to admire 1) Their news agenda is often not coveraging what I'm bothered about! (But that's national TV news and radio, not B2B journalism) (What doesn't get covered daily that I'm bothered about, if you're wondering, is plant based, veganism, animal welfare for all animals, animal racism (speciesism), climate change, spirituality, mental health, vegan fashion or at least fashion that doesn't involve animals eg. cotton and linen, motivation, entrepreneurialism, geography, travel) If you want to work in PR or are already in PR, realise that the media are not the enemy. You build a relationship with them. Post written by Kerry Hopkins

Backlight, the podcast that takes you behind the scenes at Lighthouse Reports is back. We paused for a couple of months to think about who the pod is for and how we can improve it. In this first episode of Season 2 the co-hosts Beatriz Ramalho da Silva and Tessa Pang talk about the new format and tease some of the great stuff that's coming. So, who is it for? And why listen? There's a mystique around investigative journalism which can be fun and alluring. It can also be a barrier to people who want to get involved but aren't sure how to go about it. Backlight can help. Every month our team and collaborators explain how we got to the big reveals; share the tools, tips and resources that forge breakthroughs; and talk about what's happening in the collaborative journalism and digital investigations space that's worth knowing about. If you work in or around investigative journalism or if you're just curious about investigations, this pod is for you. If you take part in collaborations, or would like to, or you'd like them to work better, this pod is for you. If you want to know how to do big stories that will win awards and trigger change, this pod is also for you. Or if you just wish the face of hard-charging investigative journalism was a bit more friendly, approachable and down to earth... you guessed it, Backlight is for you. https://lnkd.in/e4ur4CiS
