Interesting article by Datarails In 1995 is when I was introduced to Cognos PowerPlay. Cognos Powerplay help me streamline my reporting including analytical procedures. Let's fast forward to June 2024 and there are still the following challenges with reporting: 1) Data silos including legacy databases are still a problem for organizations 2) Business Analytical solutions should look at how best to work with Microsoft Excel 3) Many analytical tools have excel add-in that allow organizations to work with OLAP data sources as way to avoid the need for pivot tables. 4) There size limitations with Excel including performance and latency. It is important to design modeling in a way that leverages both formula and feeders. 5) Vlookup can be replace through proper file mapping including staging the data (formatting issues) Knowledge Orchestrator or other tools I have deployed over 300 data and AI solutions across geography and industry.
