As we get older, stories fade away unless we write them down. I read the obituary of Charles Ferris, former top Senate staffer and Chairman of the FCC under Jimmy Carter, a few days ago. It prompted me to write down the story of how we ended up with competition in wireless communications although at the time monopoly was the de facto regulatory model for telephony.
