Closing the loop: Hydrogen’s in Malaysia’s Net Zero Roadmap. The focus on battery electric vehicles as a cleaner energy source for Malaysians fails to tackle the significant contribution of heavy vehicles to emissions. Hydrogen as an alternative for trucks and buses presents several advantages: extended range, quick refuelling, enhanced payload capacity, and durability. There are a host of benefits to incorporating hydrogen energy to our transport systems, all of which strengthen the argument of creating a demand in our country. Social Democracy Malaysia aims to advocate for environmental preservation, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions to mitigate the far-reaching effects of climate change. Stay tuned for our full research material, and keep checking in for updates! #socialdemocracy #malaysia #hydrogen #socialdemocracymalaysia #hydrogenenergy #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #klangvalley #selangor #kualalumpur #greenenergy #greeneconomy #publictransport #transport #vehicles

This week's ESG updates highlight Malaysia's commitment to the Paris Agreement and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as emphasized by Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. Speaking at the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of The Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Uganda, he underscored Malaysia's shift towards exporting commercial renewable energy to generate economic benefits and its Phase 2 of the SDG Road Map aligning with the Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025. Additionally, Malaysian developer UEM Sunrise Berhad is prioritizing sustainability through its Sustainability Blueprint 1.0, actively addressing climate change risks and collaborating with partners like SOLS Energy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The company's initiatives extend to solar panel subscriptions, EV charging points, and sustainable city development. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's EPRO Advance Technology (EAT) is introducing its hydrogen-generating technology, utilizing patented silicon material Si+, to Universiti Malaya's Kuala Lumpur campus. EAT's process uses recycled silicon from retired solar panels to produce hydrogen, fostering a circular economy. This week's ESG update brings promising strides in Malaysia's sustainability journey, with significant milestones such as the debut auction of domestic carbon credits by Bursa Carbon Exchange on July 25, featuring credits from the Kuamut Rainforest Conservation Project and the launch of commercial trading of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) through the Malaysian Green Attribute Trading System (mGATS), operated by Tenaga Nasional Bhd. Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Lawrence Wong are seen as pivotal figures to establish regional sustainability benchmarks in ASEAN, according to an ASLI analyst. Recent MoUs between Malaysia and Singapore lay the groundwork for joint ventures in electric vehicle infrastructure and green technologies, combining Singapore’s technological strengths with Malaysia’s natural resources. This collaboration is expected to attract investment, enhance regional stability, and foster economic integration, particularly as Malaysia assumes the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. In the real estate sector, innovative initiatives are shaping sustainability benchmarks and recognition. Iskandar Investment Bhd partners with GBS Malaysia and iTrain Asia to propel Medini towards becoming a net-zero carbon Central Business District by 2030, while Paramount Corp Bhd's "Gold" assessment for its Sustainability-Linked Financing Framework underscores its commitment to aligning sustainability goals with financing structures. Meanwhile, Sunway Property's consistent recognition at the BCI Asia Awards for sustainable practices reaffirms its position as a leading Master Community Developer in Malaysia and across Asia. Additionally, Sarawak is advancing notably in sustainable energy and aviation fuel projects, with Sarawak Energy Bhd not only aiming to expand its energy generation capacity but also planning to extend its business beyond Borneo. In collaboration with InvestSarawak, the partnership with Japan's Marubeni Corporation on a sustainable aviation fuel project highlights Sarawak's commitment to leveraging its resources for sustainable development, meeting rising energy demands, and fostering international collaborations.
