CES is chaos. There's no other way to describe it. 150 countries. 1400 startups. 4300 total exhibitors. 135,000 attendees. To get discovered in the chaos of it is one thing. But to get discovered AND to be applauded, amongst this vast pool of companies, was nothing short of a miracle. From the steady flow of attendees and tour groups to being honored with - not one - but two awards, our team was feeling the love for Lotus (Techstars'23)! But don’t take my word for it. Reverse Vending or deposit return schemes are not new but they are about to have their moment in the spotlight in a much bigger way. It's the smaller applications that we see the biggest growth over the next few years. Small return installations, giving much wider access to people to return their waste and get rewarded for doing so. I will be there, in the beautiful city of Gdańsk, Poland, with an invited presentation „Adaptive Optics in Astronomy, Biomedical Imaging, Energy Delivery and Free-Space Optical Communications“ (abstract below). ☟ Decades after the Cold War ended, #adaptiveoptics (AO) technology developed for the U.S. Strategic Defense Initiative (“Star Wars”) missile defense program continues to be of use, emerging in fields ranging from astronomy to retinal imaging. Technological advances and cost-scaling due to mass manufacturing drive the trends in affordability of AO components and open up the perspective of AO-equipped devices on the consumer market. With these trends, accomplishments such as real-time adaptive optics vision correction, direct #imaging of extrasolar planets, focusing of #laser beams through the Earth’s atmosphere and compact, AO-enhanced laser terminals for high-data-rate #telecommunications are becoming a reality.
