Hi Linkedin Friends. Quick story for any of you who have struggled to buy gift cards in large numbers for employee or customer gifts around the holidays. In years past, we’d take turns going to Wal-Mart to buy a handful of cards and often get treated like drug dealers trying to launder money when we were just trying to brighten the holidays for our employees. We tried to buy Visa gift cards one year to cut down on the endless trips to Wal-Mart and there were a bunch of fees and, worse, half of them didn’t arrive on time. This year, we bought cards from BizGift™ and it was awesome because: * We got to customize our message and weren’t limited to a cartoon version of a turkey from Bentonville. * Our employees get to choose from over 300 retailers including Starbucks, Dunkin, and Wal-Mart.  * Our business only gets charged if and when the recipient activates the card. In years past, we had to pay up front and if our employees didn’t use the cards, the retailer benefited. Now, we don’t get charged for it. * It was super easy. We made 0 trips to Wal Mart this year. We ordered the cards online at Bizgift.com and they were here in plenty of time. We are celebrating our customers this week and incase you had no idea what this year's theme is, i decided to let you know 👇 . The five core goals of the Week are: Celebrate front-line staff who are the flag bearers of the company. Thank customers for their loyalty. Remind your team of the need to be a customer-centric organization. Tell your customer service success stories. Renew your dedication to service excellence. You don't have to be a customer service personnel to take part or join in the celebrations, do this instead: Send thank you messages and emails to customers. Appreciate your team for the efforts they are putting in place to serve the customers. Thank other stakeholders within the supply chain who make it possible for your team to serve the customers well. Share candies, gift cards and other gifts to customers as they visit the store throughout the week. 😍 😍 Management team should join the front-line staff in receiving customers to show the dedication of management to customer experience. Don't forget to REWARD: Recognize your team members for their service and dedication. Genuinely identify outstanding behaviors and dedication to good service and recognize these efforts. Present certificates of appreciation to individuals, departments and groups that have significantly contributed to improving the level of service offered to customers.

One of the things I don’t agree with my that most businesses do is… The size of the gifts a vendor/provider will send is based on the amount of business they get. Many will send the top 10 a luxury gift like a wine basket or tickets to a ballgame, but the bottom 10 may only get a Christmas card. I treat EVERY client the same, regardless of the amount of business that we do. Whether we do 3 loads a month or 10 loads a day, my attention to my client's business is the same. Same way with appreciation and holiday gifts. If I’m buying a $500 gift for my #1 account, my bottom account is getting a $500 gift. I can show you numbers where clients were once low margin and little revenue is now the top 5. One client comes to mind where in 2023 I banked 177K and margins were north of 26%. If you love your kids the same and you do your best to treat them the same, then there is no reason not to treat your clients the same. Because… That’s where the real magic happens.

Sometimes basic communication seems so, well, BASIC, that it's easily over-looked. Two weeks ago I wanted to buy my son gift cards to some of his favorite eating establishments. It was a Monday afternoon and one of them was shut-tight. Since it's not some place I frequent, I wasn't sure whether they were closed for the day, or closed for good. I moved on and purchased gift cards at other places. (Turns out, they were just closed because it was Monday.) There was no "Open Hours" sign in the window. I had no motivation to return and try my luck again. Making it easy to do business with you and your company starts with great communication. Last week I was on Beaver Island in Michigan. They have the most fabulous toy store in the whole world. I. Am. Not. Kidding. The owner, Mary Rose, is practically an institution. She hasn't aged one minute in the twenty+ years I've been a customer. It's a very seasonal business: population on the island swells in the summer and falls off exponentially at the end of August.
