This leakage results in 70 million metric tons of CO2 emissions every year, equivalent to powering 12 million homes. This World Refrigeration Day, let's reaffirm our commitment to working together to make refrigeration systems more efficient and environmentally friendly. Most people won't understand how much Refrigerant is required in the average supermarket.. with the fight to keep up with the EPA and a fair share of conversions using a 400 series gas (448) the 25% leak rate is a conservative number. There needs to be a push to update old equipment and in store mechanicals when addressing conversions which is expensive but if handled properly the end user can expect an ROI while helping the environment, sadly however this is most likely not the case.
