I don't know who needs to read this. But if it is for you (and it is for me) read on. This isn't a professional post. But it is for all the hard-working professionals that are parents, guardians now navigating what's the end of day one: summer break. 🌞 ⛱   🌪 For those of us torn between two roles; 👩❤️💋👨 🏤 For those of us expected to be present for both work AND kids, And feel like we keep failing at one; 📖 For those of us trying to get by with out a play book and making it up as we go; 💫 For those who are leaving behind a mess of a trail all over the place (you will get to it later); 💔 For those of us working from home (we are lucky for this benefit) with kiddos saying they are bored every two hours and promising them you can hang out later-because you have to work (but the guilt is heavy); 🎨 💻 For those of us whose offices are our kitchen table & summer camp ( yes crafts and laptops are side by side); ⚖ For those of us trying to be present to meet the needs of those around us family, peers and the staff that need us and rely on us; 💪 We will get though it. 👉 Cut yourself some slack. 👉Your are doing your best. 👉Build a village. 👉Ask for help (this truly is strength). 👉Make time for yourself. REALLY, MAKE THE TIME. It is something I am learning to lean into. You are more than surviving, you are thriving. Happy Summer!

Today was always my favorite day as a young child, and it may have gotten a fun little dance this morning, but it also brings challenges in balancing work and being a mom. I see the excitement now in my own children's eyes. It is a time when they get to wake up late, have new experiences at different camps, and spend more time at home. 😍 I can't help but feel optimistic that the summer will go smoothly, but I also know that all the shuttling around will knock my normal routine off its tracks. Happy first day of summer! ☀ How do we manage summer in my house? 💡 More than I can count calendar reminders. 💡 Making a plan with my husband at the beginning of each week. 💡 Blocking time in my calendar. 💡 Focusing on efficiency when I sit down to work. The first day of summer ☀ is a beautiful reminder of the joys of family life, even with its inherent challenges. By embracing the excitement and obstacles, working parents can create a summer filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. Keep this in mind today! Work for a company that allows time away because they know you’ll be better for them in the long run. Innovation and longevity is not a grind. Work for a company who sees you, not only as an employee, an asset, or a resource. A company that understands that life goes on outside of the 4 walls. Work for a company who values family. Who knows you are irreplaceable at home in times of need. Work for a company who trusts you and provides flexibility. Trusts that you are going to give your all most days, and make up for the times when you can’t. On days where I have no child care, I’m thankful I can keep an eye on my kids from the comfort of my dining room table. Even if this means putting in the late hours to ensure I’m showing up for my family, my team, and my employer. I’m a better employee when I can care for my family during these irregular times. Summer camp will begin and my schedule will go back to normal. But for now, I’ll simply relish in gratitude.

“I’m going to wait until summer is over to work on me.” I’ve heard this a lot from some fathers I’ve spoken to. This mentality can really hold you back in your journey. Put it this way: for about six weeks, you stop working on yourself to enjoy summer. You start feeling sh*t within yourself. September comes, and you think it’s time to do something. For years to come, you will get stuck in the same habit. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the summer with your family and friends. It doesn’t mean you can’t work on your goals and still enjoy summer. My client Matt has been working with me. He has had three holidays, worked a demanding job, been a partner, and a father. Finding the balance has not been easy. But look at him—he’s flying now! He didn’t wait until he finished his holidays or looked for the next excuse. We had a lot of conversations and planned ahead for each event that was coming up. And look at the fantastic progress! Hello Summer! While I'm excited for the summer and all the fun we've already had and will be having, I'm also present to the potential overwhelm that it can cause our family and potentially your's. Summertime brings its own unique challenges which have been coming up over and over again with my clients.
