How HCA, Tenet and CHS have grown — or shrunk — over 5 years: Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare operated 186 hospitals by the end of 2023, up from 179 in 2019. Meanwhile, two other large for-profit health systems — Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare — have trimmed the number of hospitals they operated over that span. http://dlvr.it/T44PK7

Today is #WorldHealthDay, and this year's theme is "My Health, My Right." Let's celebrate this day by advocating for quality healthcare for all, supporting health literacy and choice. Access to quality serious-illness care is a fundamental human right, and policy decisions, including appropriate regulation and funding, must align. On this #WorldHealthDay, I'm proud to advocate for hospice care, which supports the fundamental principle that healthcare is a human right, including care at the end of life. Hospice is a holistic care approach that encompasses all of a person's physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and practical needs. It's essential to recognize that hospice isn't just about dying peacefully, but also about living until the last moment. Hospice isn't "last breath care" - that misunderstanding must be addressed. As one quote beautifully summarizes, "You matter to the last moment of your life. We will do all that we can not only to help you die peacefully but also to live until you die." Let's continue to advocate for quality, holistic care for all, supporting health literacy and choice in serious-illness care. #hospice #worldhealthday2024

Some live key takeaways from our webinar with Caitlin Synovec from National Health Care for the Homeless Council: ✔ Hospitals can provide consistent, predictable funding for programs through contracts and rates. ✔ Even in states where other funding mechanisms exist or are in development, hospital funding supports operational costs and non-billable services. ✔ Medical respite can contribute to hospital goals such as decreased length of stay and reduce readmission rates.
