First day back to… civilization?, domestic life?… after spending just over a week in the Rockies chasing elk with my son and a couple close service buddies. I can’t in good conscience say “back to real life” because real life is “out there,” in the wilds. I’ll be posting a day by day recap. I hope a few folks here find this adventure replay a useful, digital-social respite for your mind. Every hunt is imperative to maintaining and gaining perspective in life. “Beautiful things don’t ask for attention.” The August full moon is call the Sturgeon Moon. It is named for the season in which Native Americans most easily harvested sturgeon from freshwater rivers and lakes. In 2024, the Sturgeon Moon is a rare super blue moon. My first Black Hat experience was nothing short of exceptional. The absolute best part, threaded into and throughout everything, was fostering relationships - new and old! One thing that helped me on the track was plenty of experience tearing up gravel roads over the years!🤣 ✅ Toured the UFC Performance Institute, participated in a 2hr MMA training session (with UFC Legends Forrest Griffin & Mike Pyle), and absorbed a leadership and mental fortitude discussion with Ryan Nece (Next Legacy Partners) & Forrest Griffin. As school season approaches, I wanted to share some thoughts, maybe even ask a favor… Sit with your child/children for 5 minutes and explain: 1) There’s never a reason to make fun of someone for their height, weight, skin tone, what they wear, their home life or the things they enjoy. 2) Give them permission to stand up for someone being bullied, and to stand against bullies. Explain to them there is nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes every day. Explain to them that a used backpack carries the same dreams as a new one. Teach them not to exclude anyone for "being different.” Explain to them that teasing hurts and that school is for learning both “school things” and how to be a positive influence as a person - and this will help shape who they become as an adult. Remind them some kids don’t go home to loving families so it’s important to always be kind. It all starts at home, and it matters deeply. And - remember - if we aren’t practicing these things as adults, they will notice. So take this as a reminder and personal point of discipline to think about how/what our kids hear us say about other people.

Recently, at a friend’s house, our boys (both 14) wanted to drive the “farm car” around in the hayfield. My buddy and I agreed over eye contact and a head nod so he told the boys, “go for it.” Naturally, we snuck over to the deer blind in the field where they were rippin’ around and ambushed them with roman candle fire. Honestly… I firmly believe boys need stuff like this. We scared the crap out of them.😄 My son’s response after the ordeal, “good training!” Do your kids a favor - give them room to mess it up while you’re still around to advise, guide, and sneak in with a simulated attack.🤣 #family #kids #parenting #adventure
