This is a perfect example of the need for culturally responsive career and college counseling. Native youth need to have examples of college majors and careers that lead to the sustaining, building, and empowering of their communities. Great article!

Urge your Congressional Representatives and Senators to pass the bipartisan Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE Act), a crucial piece of legislation that recognizes the therapeutic benefits of outdoor recreation for military veterans like me. While time outside is not a cure all, routine time outside raises the floor of mental health and shines a light on important doorways and paths one can take towards long term healing. In other words, it was, if you read my post yesterday, what allowed me to walk away from someone else's war I had been fighting longer after than I ever did in person. Veteran or not, you can get involved. Most of us have trauma, and the only way through is together. Today, @ColoradoPublicRadio (CPR) calls Denver's weather Famously Fickle. It got us wondering what the bees do during these cold spells? How do they stay warm? We went directly to our resident beekeeper, @FRB's Head beekeeper, Mike Rosol. Mike shares, "Honeybees can actually warm the inside of their hive. Certain bees are designated as "heater bees" (Not kidding!) and they crawl headfirst into an empty cell. Then, they vibrate their wing muscles extremely rapidly, generating tiny amounts of heat. This warms the wax and any stored honey that is adjacent to that cell. The bees will space themselves across a series of frames in the center of the hive and all work together to generate enough heat to keep the inside of the hive at least 70 degrees F! When the honeybees have stored a lot of honey from their prior season, they have enough food to last through these cold spells. Darn interesting and fascinating that bees are so ingenious. Years ago, I was opposed to staging for houses. I thought that it was a waste of money. Now I realize it is a differentiating factor. Stating a house allows people to see themselves there.
