Why you’re NOT only as good as your last performance Last Saturday, Mark Cavendish was the first rider to get dropped on a challenging first stage of the Tour de France due to the heat. Many feared his early exit, but he managed to finish within the time limit alongside his team members. Today, 4 days later, he won his 35th stage in the Tour making him the sole record holder 👑 Despite the doubts surrounding him after stage 1, Cavendish remained confident in his and the team’s ability: 🗣️ “We knew what we were doing. We had a plan, we stuck to it.” The plan: survive and save energy on hilly stages by riding at his own pace, understanding that difficult stages are part of the process to get chances at victory. 🎯This goal-setting (past successes, experience, motivation, training…) contributed to keep believing in his own ability to win, not panicking when getting dropped early or having a bad day. 💡There are endless factors that can influence your day-to-day performance, so don’t let it influence your belief in your ability. Instead, stick to your plan.

One of the hardest decisions I had to make all year - the Radar Promotions crew has been rowing in line towards a sales goal that is basically 2x our 2022 sales figure: no one here has any “territories” or “that’s my client” situations: we all have ONE SINGULAR GOAL and that’s the COMPANY GOAL Some great months and some not so great months but overall, we’re on track for the big ol goal for 2023 - this is due to hard work by the team, and amazing partnerships with our amazing clients. But with almost 2 full months left, there was a huge question: do I book the trip for the goal we haven’t hit yet, or risk costing a ton more money by booking later? Or perhaps the bigger risk: miss the goal and have a trip to Manila anyway…(non-refundable) Well, in the late great words of Yoda: Do or Do Not: there is no Try. We are hitting the goal and going to Manila right after PPAI - Promotional Products Association International Expo in Vegas in January! Looking forward to another amazing January Adventure as I’ve come to call them with Jill Spencer and Corey Damien: my work wife and the company’s first full time hire. And, so looking forward to catching up with our Manila team Cristine Ann Arellano Cantillon Amy Soriano Tom Parong Benjamin Javier and Ian!

Ever watch a relay race where the baton gets dropped at the handoff? It’s a heart-stopping moment for everyone involved, especially the spectators (aka investors).  That’s exactly what it feels like when Marketing and Sales aren’t in sync. Marketing runs the first leg, creating a solid strategy and generating leads. They sprint towards Sales, ready to pass the baton… and then oops, the handoff fumbles. Marketing: "We ran our part perfectly!" Sales: "But the baton wasn’t in my hand!" When the baton is dropped, everyone loses momentum, and the race slows down. But when the handoff is smooth, the team flies towards the finish line, closing deals and driving growth. So, let’s practice those handoffs! With clear communication, shared goals, and a process that works, you can cross that finish line as an integrated sales and marketing team. This is my daughter finishing second to last in her sprint yesterday. BUT… she beat her personal best time by 2 tenths of a second. So she didn’t “win”, but she did win. In sports it’s the perfect painful position to be in, racing against better people who push you to be better and better…. even if you don’t get the public recognition of placing. In business, this is where you want to be too. Surrounded by people better than you, who are constantly pushing you to improve. Because in business, just like sports, despite what everyone else sees, you’re only ever competing with yourself. You should only ever be concerned with your own personal best. Your personal best sales this month. Your personal best net promoter score this month. Your personal best number of leads this month. Your personal best conversion rate. Your personal best customer lifetime value. Your personal best cost of acquisition. Your personal best staff satisfaction. Your personal best number of referrals. Your personal best number of hours worked in the business (and by best I mean fewest.) Your personal best number of school runs you went on. Your personal best number of date nights. Most of your victories are hidden. And you want to be surrounded by people achieving greater personal victories than you. Just remember to run your own race.
