Friday was ‘Marketing and selling to bring it to life’   The 4th and penultimate session in the first Portfolio Careers in Primary Care program.   The ‘it’ in the module title refers to the businesses, products, services and brands that have been created. It has been fantastic to see this, but what has been just as rewarding is the friendships, confidence and connections that have been built.   There was plenty of laughter too. The picture is our own little joke about 😸 v 🐶, cats win every time of course 😉.   There’s one more module and the coaching sessions for us to enjoy but I have no doubt we will stay firmly connected.   For Tracy Green MCIPD and I, it has been so good we will launch the second cohort earlier than intended. We shall be Auditioning your department tomorrow!!!😱😱😱 What do you feel about this?? This used to be the case during the celebrations of the International Nurses week yearly. The intent was to identify the best department and reward them at the climax of the year’s event. This event was always graced with the Board of management, invited County guests (Health Department) and the institution’s leadership. Such a beautiful event it is! I might invite myself this year and join in the celebrations 😅😅😅 Wait a minute why am i talking about it like it stopped happening 😻😻 it still happens and the tradition will never end. This is always a special moment. So back to the Audits!!!! There was always something about them that built tension and anxiety around this period. The audit scope was a secret, the audit timings also depended on the auditors plan and you were to be prepared always, the auditors were to make their own tool which also was not to be shared!!!! In a nutshell every thing was fully dependent on the auditors on session. Does this explains the anxiety. The feeling of winning was and still is refreshing. I had a chance to drive my team towards the win and i tell you we worked haaard……..2 weeks before the race i was reshuffled to another unit and only watched my former team celebrate the victory but i was vert ecstatic. We had finally achieved the victory 🎯🎊🎊🎊🎊 Even though winners were highly motivated and well celebrated it kept me wondering on how this can be done better. Fast forward as I debunked this mystery i got deeper into Quality Management systems. This was a great eye opener. The ISO ISO - International Organization for Standardization has highlighted the importance of having bare standards to guide audits. Do you know them? Could you like to know them? QUESTION OF THE WEEK! This weeks 'Question of the week' is one that has been keeping us all on our toes 😰 Luckily for us, we have Zoë-Dawn Anderson - an expert on all things CQC inspections, who has been keeping us updated. Question of the week: What’s the latest update on the rollout of the CQC’s new inspection approach? 1) New Inspection Approach: -The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is implementing a new inspection approach. -The North and Midland regions are transitioning to this approach in early February. -Providers will receive instructions on preparation. 2) Changes and Replacements: - The old Provider Portal will cease functioning on February 27, and providers can sign up for the new portal. - Applications for new activities or services will be assessed using the new approach - Quality statements (QS) now replace Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs). - People’s experiences play a central role in CQC judgments, even if other evidence doesn’t indicate issues. 3) Monitoring and Ratings: -Between inspection visits, monitoring services has gained importance. -The CQC has revamped its teams, creating new roles alongside traditional inspectors. -The regulatory coordinator serves as the main point of contact, while assessors handle routine monitoring and assist with report writing. -Reports will now be published in a more accessible web format. -Inspectors remain the lead during site visits, supported by colleagues. -The CQC assigns scores to quality statements, determining overall ratings. -The new approach allows ongoing assessment and score updates without mandatory visits. -Some services may skip site visits if evidence can be shared easily via other means. Reflecting back over my years at FMCSA I wish I had done one thing differently over the years. The CMV industry is so diverse, not only in the make up of carriers but within the advocates, special interest groups, regulators, and enforcement. Problem is that most do not agree with each other, have their own views on issues, and just want and expect! Many wanted to check the box; we met with the Administrator, photo taken, job completed for six months. Problem is that many of the modes go through Administrators quicker then celebrities staying married. We went through 7 Administrators (Many Acting) in six years; not fair to the Industry, FMCSA and special interest groups. What I should have done different is bring in all the CMV industry, advocacy, associations, regulators, and enforcement representatives and attempted to find common ground. I should have done this on a regular basis. How to assure safety and promote commerce at the same time!!! Can it be achieved, sure it can, there just has to be a little give and take.
