Genworth just released the results of their 2023 Cost of Care Survey and the findings show that costs for long-term care services have increased across all provider types. The survey participants reported that inflation and a shortage of skilled workers are the main drivers of this increase. The cost of home health aide and homemaker services saw the most substantial cost increases. The national annual median cost of a semi-private room in a skilled nursing facility rose to $104,000, an increase of 4.4%, while the cost of a private room in a nursing home increased 4.9% to $116,800. Despite these cost increases, the survey found that 95% of respondents, regardless of facility type, place high importance on person-centered care. Check out the Cost of Care Survey tool, an interactive web-based tool to help calculate the median cost of long-term care services in your area. #ltcbenefitsasanemployeebenefit #longtermcareplanning #longtermcareinsurance #homecareexpenses #carecenterexpenses

The article from Home Health Care News addresses the trend of "acuity creep" in home health care, where patients increasingly require complex care at home. This situation demands more skilled nursing and comprehensive staff training. To adapt, home care agencies should invest in workforce development, enhance training for handling complex cases, and consider revising reimbursement models to reflect the heightened care needs. Strategies could also include collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure a continuum of care and using technology to streamline operations and patient monitoring. #homecare #homehealthcare #training #caregiver https://hubs.li/Q02gLs_d0

Why is the nursing home industry fighting against rules for minimum staffing and financial transparency? They claim they can't afford it. However, many nursing home owners have mastered the art of appearing broke while actually taking money for themselves. They set up multiple companies to handle different parts of the business, like management, staff, equipment, or the building. This allows them to hide their profits. In fact, 77% of nursing homes use this trick.
