The Mentoring thing... with a question. In the journey of professional growth, the right mentor can be a beacon of guidance, unlocking unparalleled opportunities for a mentee. But the question arises: How do we ensure a mentor-mentee pairing is nothing short of perfect? We all know the importance of connecting with someone, and how detrimental it can be if the connection is just not there. So I am looking for a mentor, but not for me... it's for someone who won a series of mentorship session, but I have to do the groundwork and get to make sure that we follow the best possible process to get the best possible match. My quest is not only about finding someone who embodies the spirit of mentorship, with a keen interest in fostering growth and an innate ability to connect and inspire, but to make sure that there is a connection. I turn to you, my network, for guidance and connections. And maybe this question is not unique; maybe it is something many young leaders have been battling with. Yes, sometimes a connection are formed naturally and the mentoring happens because of and after that, but sometimes people are making a decision to get a mentor... and then what? I need to make this work... And the reality is that i cannot line five different mentors up and tell the winner to choose? Or is that how it's done? Guidance please! #Mentorship #Leadership #Johannesburg #ProfessionalGrowth #Networking

Have you ever imagined capturing a lifetime of wisdom in a single conversation? That's the magic of mentorship. Without the guidance of incredible mentors like Jack C., who sharpened my creative problem-solving skills, Rick Shumway, who challenged me to think globally and act locally, Anh Phuong Tran, who instilled the tactics of strategic risk-taking, and Alpa Vyas, who revealed the hidden power of empathy in leadership, I wouldn't be standing here today. Each dialogue blossomed into its own masterclass. But mentorship isn't just about finding someone who's "been there, done that." It's about finding someone who sees the potential you can't quite see in yourself, who believes in you even when you doubt, and who pushes you to become the best version of yourself – even if it means a little discomfort. So, whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out, embrace the power of mentorship. Seek mentors, become mentors, pay it forward, share your wisdom, and build a community of growth. Remember, the greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of guidance. Who's been a mentor in your life? Share their names and lessons in the comments. Let's celebrate the power of mentorship together this year in 2024! Our Journey is Personal and Powerful. Let's Own Our Success Together! #mentorship #growthmindset #payitforward #gratitude #ExecOnWheels

January is National Mentoring Month, this is a great resource for anyone aspiring to cultivate these relationships. One of the most satisfying moments in business is seeing the potential in someone who does not see it themselves and then watch them learn, grow and achieve way beyond their own expectations. A word of warning: this is not something to take lightly. The benefits both mentees and mentors can reap can be great but you have to be willing to put in the work to structure meetings, set proper expectations, stay connected and be consistent. Remember that the fastest way to success is to work with someone who has done it before and can coach you. HBR provides a great guide here for cultivating sustainable mentorships -- give it a quick read. Any other experiences or tips you would add? #Leadership #Mentorship #Mentors
