A better future is everyone’s business. The recently concluded World Economic Forum Economic highlighted critical themes, notably the "Race to Reskill," a decade-long initiative addressing emerging #skillsgap . A staggering revelation indicates that 44% of current skills will undergo transformation within the next four years. As organizations like the National Employment Authority implement the skills inventory through the National Employment Authority Integrated Management System, pressing questions arise: How can #education and #careerdevelopment services effectively tackle the challenges posed by the skills gap and skills mismatch? How can nations create comprehensive pathways from skilling to #employability or #entrepreneurship ? While the skills gap underscores the difference between employer needs and available workforce skills, skills mismatch encompasses a broader misalignment between workers' skills and those demanded by the #job market. These issues underscore the complexities within #workforce #development , education, and #training systems. Having supported skilling programs in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVETs ) on skills and career development and program management for over a decade , I am keenly interested in the role #tvet institutions & programs play to address the skills gap and developing skills for #life and #work ? Whereas TVETs helps #youth and adults develop the abilities, knowledge, values and attitudes they need to find decent work and contribute to building a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world ,they also contribute to the targets of Sustainable Development DevelopmentGoal 4 (#sdg4 ) to 'ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’ and those of #sdg8 for 'decent work and economic growth'. However ,according to UNESCO, Worldwide 267 million young people aged 15-24 are still not in any form of employment, education or training. This is a cohort that should be undertaking TVET based programs . By offering practical and hands-on education tailored to industry needs, TVETs institutions emerge as pivotal players in mitigating the skills gap. They collaborate with industries to craft curricula that directly correlate with present and future work requirements. The recent adoption of the Dual TVET Systems, focusing on Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and the Recognition of Prior Learning are considered a transformative approaches bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills as well as providing a pathway for individuals who may have gained skills through informal means or on-the-job training to get into the mainstream skills recognition and job opportunities. Let's talk about the TVETs ecosystem from policy to programs in providing skills for work and life. Your thoughts ?
