Founder @Work Onward (Techstars '23) | CEO @DHD Consulting | Restaurateur | On a mission to make the world of hourly work, work!

Being the CEO of two companies in the same industry but with different models provides me with a never-ending stream of insights. My recruiting firm, DHD Consulting focuses on a range of recruiting, staffing, and HR services, while WorkOnward (Techstars '23) Your Job, on the Map. (a Techstars ’23 startup) sits squarely in HR tech. I benefit tremendously as a leader and an entrepreneur from this dynamic front-row seat to the hiring show. There are key issues that emerge with regularity and which will come as no surprise to anyone working in either more traditional HR services or in HR tech: There’s the hybrid/remote/work-from-home discussion (or debate 😉) There’s the media’s latest “movement of the moment”: the great resignation, quiet quitting, the big stay, the lazy girl job (I can’t even with that last one 🙄). There’s job-hopping, see: the merits of. All of these are matters I care deeply about, and not just because I’ve experienced them from every possible position (a founder, a recruiter, a small business owner, an employee), but because work is so fundamental to all of our lives. When work “works,” America works. 🚀 (To paraphrase President Calvin Coolidge’s famous line “The business of America is business.”) What will make the future of work a bright one? 💙 Empathy. 💙 Like all startup founders, I have my rough days. But a huge part of what keeps me going - what keeps my spirit burning hot - is that the “human” in Human Resources is becoming real. For many decades in corporate America, the term could feel like a cruelly ironic joke to employees on the receiving end of any HR “support.” That is changing at last. I’m thrilled that empathy is part of the conversation. I’m happy when I see someone job-hop if their company isn’t paying them what they’re worth. I breathe a sigh of relief that the darker side of the burgeoning Gig Economy (think Uber drivers sleeping by the hundreds in parking lots in San Francisco) has begun to give way to workers demonstrating the courage to empower themselves by saying no to unreasonable expectations—and showing remarkable savvy in finding the technology tools that can help them succeed. I am honored to be a part of this, building one of those critical tools. By the way: This week at Work Onward, we’ll be talking about another key topic in the #futureofwork: Generation Z, and how everyone is getting it wrong. (And we Millennials thought we had it bad.) #workonward #work #HRtech #employmenttrends #worktrends
