Did you know that the Dependent Care FSA limit of $5,000 has not been changed since it was created in 1986?(1) If adjusted for inflation, that would be $13,900 in 2024. A great start would be for Congress to update the Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account rules and index it to inflation. In 2022 the average cost of childcare was $14,768. Childcare is considered affordable by the US Department of Health and Human Services when it is "no more than seven percent of a family's income."(2) In 2022 US Family Households had a median income of $95K. Married-couple Families were higher at $115K, and "female-householder, no spouse present" families had a median income of $55K.(3) Sourcing: (1) https://lnkd.in/eUvVZQF4 (2) https://lnkd.in/eQKxmwre (3) https://lnkd.in/erZWYZev

Demand that CNN ask the candidates about child care at the presidential debate The extreme cost of child care is crushing moms all over the country. Child care for two children costs more than rent in every U.S. state. 50% of Americans live in child care deserts. And 59% of parents with young kids have been forced to reduce their work hours or quit their jobs due to the exorbitant expenses of child care. Moms First is fighting to bring child care to the forefront of the upcoming presidential debate hosted by CNN on June 27 — and we need YOUR help to make it happen. Sign the petition to demand that CNN bring attention to the escalating child care crisis during the upcoming presidential debate. It’s time for our leaders to make bold commitments to moms across the country, and fixing the broken child care system is just the beginning. This is our moment for moms to be heard, and we need you to raise your voice. https://lnkd.in/eM24hBZX

🚨The average cost of child care for two children is higher than the cost of rent in all 50 states 🚨 (For anyone who’s a parent of little ones, this is *NOT* breaking news) The lack of affordable child care affects all of us, but disproportionately moms across the U.S. are bearing the burden of this growing crisis. Yesterday I joined an inspiring call with Moms First and Reshma Saujani to discuss a simple, yet critical call-to-action. We need answers, solutions, and actions from our leaders. We demand to know how they plan to combat the child care crisis and relieve the burden pushing countless families into debt. Canadian families ask: Where's the child care? 🔎 Finding child care shouldn’t be like a tricky game of search and find—it’s time to make things much, much better. 😀 Good news: child care is much more affordable ☹️ But here's the hiccup—many families still struggle to find child care when and where they need it. We join others in calling on federal, provincial, and territorial governments to end the child care shortage. We've been pleased to see an increased focus on the entire ecosystem of childcare options that families rely on to support their needs and their budget. The latest data from the Census Bureau is gives more insight into how critical the #FamilyFriendsAndNeighbor networks are in supporting parents, and especially women. This data reinforces what we hear from communities and is why we are excited to work with changemakers like Sheila Caldwell, Ed.D. and anchor institutions Southern Illinois University, Carbondale providing access to Carefully for #community, #connection, and #childcare "Parents might be caring for children while also working or in school given the difficulties of finding affordable child care and the shift to remote work. In addition, many households made the difficult choice of having one parent, usually women, drop out of the labor force and stay home to care for children." https://lnkd.in/e6bgqJeM Misty Heggeness Have you seen this report? interesting as it relates to the Care Board
This is so fascinating. It reflects what we see all over the place: most kids are not in formal, licensed, center-based child care. If we're going to get anywhere, we need to get creative and create policy solutions that reflect this reality. https://lnkd.in/e6bgqJeM

What environmental factors are getting in the way of having accessible childcare? It matters how a system supports it's people through all stages of life. This includes starting and having families. Whether it's government or work, there needs to be support and clear inclusion for people that choose to have a family. Leaders expect prosperity of a country, state, city, company, etc. based on the work of it's people, and sacrifice of family-life does not have to be the only option. Usually the most engaged people are presented with the dilemma of family vs. work. How does this affect the now and future?
