As young(er) parents, we often hear how our parents struggled, just as much as we are, when they were raising us. In 1990-1995, the average child care cost was about $2.50 per hour. Since the 1990’s, child care costs for a single infant has increased 214%. Comparatively, wages have increased by 22%. As a family of four, we pay $3,000 each month for daycare. Our mortgage is only $1,480. Realistically, my husband and I could afford two more mortgages each month. As a country, we have reached a point where women are being forced to exit the workforce, employers are unable to operate efficiently, parents are working just to pay daycare costs, and couples are choosing to have less children (or none at all). At what point will someone realize the severity of the child care crisis. As we move towards election season, I am closely following along to see who is truly in tune with the very real struggles of the average American family. #remotework #workplaceflexibility #childcarecrisis #maternalmentalhealth

Did you know? Child care costs more than housing in all 50 states. This eye-opening fact underscores the urgent need for flexible work solutions. Let's advocate for employers to embrace remote work options, ensuring parents can balance work and family life effectively. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for working families nationwide. #ChildCareCosts #RemoteWork #SupportWorkingFamilies

This is one of the big WHYS your employees need a remote option. This is why it pays to have flexibility and a people-first mentality in your work culture. This is why cost of living raises are simply not enough to keep up with the times. Talented, dedicated people are family members and need to be able to navigate their lives without treating their job as THE priority. If you expect someone to work themselves ragged, or make taking time for family something to feel guilty about- you’re complicit in the shame and silence experienced by so many who are afraid that being a parent or caring for a family member is reducing their ability to make an impact or to feel valued at their place of work.

We need to focus on creating solutions for working parents who are battling the rising costs of child care. It's something that's impacting people I love (and their littles.) Let's start having more conversations about how to solve this challenge. And, if you're a daycare facility owner, I'd love to hear the challenges of operating that type of business model from your end, too.

We need to start thinking about this problem strategically. How can we ensure accessible high-quality child care while improving educator livelihood as well? I think a solution is very possible when we look for creative solutions at the community level.

For #workingmoms none of this is news, but for those who aren’t in the trenches paying for childcare, you may not realize how bad it’s gotten for #workingparents. 💯 We are truly in a #childcarecrisis that is not sustainable for parents, children, #childcare providers, or the economy quite frankly. This is not just a household issue, this is at its core an #economic issue that has a large ripple effect on the larger #economy. 💸Facts: I have a quality and safe #daycare, but not the fanciest by any means, and I pay $34,000 a year for care for two kids. That’s over $2,800/month EVERY month and yes that’s way more than my mortgage (and the average rent). Think about what someone has to make to make that affordable after 25-30% of your pay goes to taxes, SS, health insurance (and 401k if you are lucky on top of that) I’m tired of hearing people say that “people don’t want to work” People who say that to parents have no idea the battles we face to even be able to work outside of the home. Take action. I signed the petition. Follow the link below to sign petition with me ⬇️

If you're a CEO or corporate business owner and don't offer paid parental leave to your employees, you're doing it wrong. If you're a CEO or corporate business owner and think employees are covered by having the option to use unpaid FMLA, PTO, and short-term disability benefits, you're doing it wrong. If you're a CEO or corporate business owner and aren't paying attention to what childcare costs in states where your employees live and work, you're doing it wrong. If you're a CEO or corporate business owner and aren't concerned with how the #childcarecrisis may impact the well-being of your employees, you're doing it wrong. Input from 25 individuals working within the region’s prenatal-to-3 system is central to a new Child Trends report funded by The Heinz Endowments, which found a more equitable prenatal-to-three system is starting to take shape in Allegheny County. Some positives include the $500,000 expansion to the Allegheny County Child Care Matters pilot program; the Investment Advisory Council funding for recruiting child care workers, maternal health equity initiatives & basic income pilot for mothers with young children; & the Early Childhood Funders Alliance efforts to support child care providers. And for you, what is child care? told me some words that still sound fresh in my memory. I am going to quote her, because today more than ever her words must be resolved, thought about, and reflected on from what we do daily from how we approach not only child care programs, but also our professional practices.
