During a left heart catheterization the physician will typically use a pigtail catheter to cross the aortic valve to enter the left ventricle. Many things can be assessed including left ventricular function, left ventricular wall stress (EDP), mitral valve regurgitation, and aortic valve stenosis as the catheter is pulled back across the aortic valve into the aorta. Biventricular pacemaker ⚡️ This device typically consists of three leads. A right atrial, right ventricular, and coronary sinus lead across the left ventricle. CRT therapy is beneficial for those with advanced heart failure. When the QRS gets prolonged we start to see dyssynchrony between the left and right ventricles. This device allows for simultaneous pacing of the chambers to allow for a more efficient cardiac cycle. Most times the right ventricular lead will be a shocking lead as we know that patients with advanced heart failure are at a higher risk for deadly arrhythmias.
