The Power of Audits💪💪 In healthcare, we talk a lot about research and its role in advancing medicine. But here’s something I firmly believe: audits are just as important—if not more—when it comes to implementing real, lasting change in patient care. Why? Because even the best research means little if we don’t ensure that new knowledge is being properly applied in practice. This is where audits come in. They’re the checkpoint that ensures those innovative, evidence-based practices are actually making their way into day-to-day care. Take, for example, an audit I worked on in the Acute medical department in Luton and Dunstable Hospital: we identified that oxygen therapy was not being prescribed with clear targets, leading to excess oxygen being administered. Through the audit, we not only recognized the issue but also implemented new protocols to prevent it in the future. Without auditing, we wouldn’t know if our improvements are sticking. By regularly reviewing how we implement research findings, audits help us maintain high standards of care, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement. So, yes, research drives knowledge, but audits drive action. What are your thoughts? Do you think audits should be given more emphasis in healthcare? #MedEd #Audits #HealthcareImprovement #QualityCare #ERDoctor #ContinuousImprovement #MedicalResearch

Patients’ expectations and the doctor's role in the patient-physician relationship continue to evolve. In today's healthcare landscape, patients are taking on a more active role in their care, highlighting the importance of "patient-centered medicine" where medical decisions are made collaboratively between the patient and their doctor. While the doctor might be the expert on the condition, a patient is best equipped to identify what's important to them. Nowhere is individualization more crucial than in healthcare, where it has been noted that individuals with the same medical condition will often have distinct priorities and preferences regarding their treatment, impacting whether they adhere to treatments or behavioral changes. Let us introduce you to the Flowful approach, which has consistently helped hospitals and care chains around the world achieve significant results within a surprisingly short period of time. Flowful (previously called Pride and Joy) is a patient-centered and clinically led approach to improve flow across all patient pathways simultaneously. This is achieved by synchronizing the work of staff and resources across the hospital, and by identifying and improving on the few critical things that cause the most unnecessary disruption and delay to most patients using advanced analysis. Flowful is both a dedicated easy-to-use piece of software and a set of processes that help hospitals free up capacity that is trapped by the way the system operates. At the core of Flowful is the ability to identify those few places causing the most disruption and delay to the most patients in complex environments. Read more on how to achieve rapid and sustainable breakthroughs in the timeliness, quality, safety, and affordability of care simultaneously here: https://lnkd.in/dgTKiDyM
