Welcome to Carbon Forward Expo London, gold sponsor enfinium. enfinium is a leading UK energy from waste operator with four operational sites in the UK and a further two in construction. enfinium currently diverts up to 2.3 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste from climate-damaging landfill, putting it to good use by turning it into homegrown, baseload energy - enough to power 500,000 UK homes. In May, enfinium published its Net Zero Transition Plan, setting out its ambition to both decarbonise its own operations and deliver carbon removals at scale to help the UK achieve its net zero targets. Installing carbon capture technology across its sites would enable enfinium to generate hundreds of thousands of tonnes of durable carbon removals from 2030, rising to 1.2 million tonnes per year by 2039. As someone deeply rooted in the energy sector, I'm thrilled to discuss Enfinium's groundbreaking initiative - one that's set to transform Ferrybridge 1 and 2, the UK's largest energy-from-waste (EfW) plants, into titans of sustainability. 🌱 I've been closely following the strides in carbon capture and storage (CCS), but Enfinium's latest plan truly ups the ante. They've outlined an ambitious strategy to decarbonise these colossal EfW plants, ensuring that the unrecyclable waste becomes a stepping stone for a greener future. Labelled a 'project of national significance', the scheme directly complements West Yorkshire's vision for a net-zero economy by 2038. The government's nod, courtesy of Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho, illustrates the project's profound impact, skipping local decision-making lines and gaining a direct endorsement from the top rungs of power. ⚡ Here's the deal - Ferrybridge could soon be capturing more than 1.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. That's monumental, considering around 600,000 tonnes of that will be 'carbon removals' from biogenic waste. It's a game-changer not only for the north of England but for the entire UK's carbon reduction goals. We're talking new jobs in the green economy, a significant reduction of our carbon footprint and a pioneering step towards sustainable energy management. And let's not overlook the nationwide significance - with 6.5% contribution to the government's CCS targets, it's clear that progress at Ferrybridge could very well ripple across the realm. Much like the ambitious declarations of Cory's EfW plans in London, Enfinium's announcement fuels the optimism for CCS deployment by 2030, a move that could redefine the UK's approach to waste and energy. The future, it seems, may just be cleaner and greener than we dared hope. Have thoughts on how CCS can reshape our environmental efforts? Let's delve into discussion below. 🔍 #EnergyTransition #CarbonCapture #SustainableUK

Plans to invest £200 million into Parc Adfer’s energy from waste facility, have been announced by enfinium. This investment will specifically go into CCS technology for the facility, which is located in Deeside, North Wales. enfinium chose this project, because it has shown the potential for capturing 235,000 tonnes of Co2 annually, as well as, over half of the plant’s produce being organic. This means that a CCS installation, could allow the plant to take in more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, in comparison to the amount it produces. The article below depicts how the investment that is planned will help industries and companies within North Wales. Plus it highlights that this project will be helpful in multiple ways and will benefit the goals that North Wales has set out for itself. Sustainability is so important to us now and in the future. We all need to have a plan and commit to actions.
Climate change is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges facing the planet today, and we know that as a business we have a role to play in reducing carbon emissions. For Marshalls, that means putting in place different initiatives that will significantly reduce our carbon footprint. From installing solar panels and setting science-based targets to developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and sourcing 74% of our electricity from renewables, we're taking meaningful steps to reduce our carbon footprint. We're also proud to be the first pre-cast concrete manufacturer in the UK to use CarbonCure Technologies, permanently locking waste carbon in our concrete products. We're making real progress with ongoing innovations like trialling new concrete mixes to reduce cement content and producing our first batch of cement-free concrete paving. The CCSA is thrilled to see that enfinium, a leading UK energy from waste operator, has revealed plans for a ground-breaking £800 million investment in CCS technology. Recognising the importance of decarbonising unrecyclable waste, enfinium's project at Ferrybridge 1 and 2 facility in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, will capture approximately 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ every year. This project positions Ferrybridge as one of Europe's largest carbon removal projects, fostering regional decarbonisation in West Yorkshire and creating over 200 jobs across the supply chain during the development phase. 🗨 Olivia Powis, UK Director of the CCSA commented: “enfinium’s planned £800 million investment in CCS at Ferrybridge marks a critical milestone for carbon removal and clean power. For the UK to host one of Europe’s largest carbon removal projects, it demonstrates we are really leading the way in our journey towards a net zero future. enfinium’s strategic vision has the potential to sustain and create good local jobs and transform the facility in West Yorkshire.” 📃 Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/eHkpgAsU #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero

Did you know that CO2-derived construction aggregates have the potential to utilize about 0.5 gigatons of CO2 annually by 2040? This innovative approach not only reduces the carbon footprint of the construction industry but also transforms waste into valuable materials. However, to achieve this, a robust regulatory framework for carbon capture and utilization (CCU) is crucial. This includes incentives, carbon pricing, public procurement targets, and clear carbon accounting rules. Effective policies can drive the adoption of CCU applications, making them a key player in the global decarbonization effort. Learn more about the potential of CCU: https://lnkd.in/g7TdVy9F Oluseye 'Bayo' Owolabi, Rukmini Sarkar, Bas Sudmeijer, and Carl Clayton #CarbonCapture #EnergyTransition #Decarbonization #Sustainability #ClimateChange

"Energy from waste operator enfinium has unveiled plans to invest around £200m in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology at the Parc Adfer facility in Deeside, North Wales. The project could capture up to 235,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year because installing CCS would enable the plant to take more CO2 out of the atmosphere than it produces. With CCS installed, Parc Adfer will support the Welsh Government’s ambition to have 100% zero carbon power by 2035 and support over 1,000 jobs in the green economy during the construction phase."
