a new episode for the minerals industry in Kosovo is about to start.... the establishment of the Kosovo Chamber of Mines is accompanied by the opening event this week. Establishment of a Kosovo Chamber of Mines serves a dual purpose: 1) contribute to the development of a modern minerals industry in Kosovo, 2) help positioning Kosovo as trusted partner in the global resource diplomacy, where security of supply of (critical) raw materials is high on many political and commercial agendas. I am please to contribute to the opening event, where I am joined by distinguished speakers from industry, government, and civil society; Mentor Demi, Alaudin Kodra, Mentor Arifaj, Nurten Deva
Grand Opening Ceremony of Kosovo Chamber of Mines. We are thrilled to announce our grand opening ceremony of the Kosovo Chamber of Mines, that will take place on 24th of July, 2024. "The massive arrival of sargassum on the coasts of the Mexican Caribbean has generated an environmental and socioeconomic crisis. The excess of this seaweed has represented a loss of 11.6% of Quintana Roo’s PIB – around 41 billion Mexican pesos (~2 mld Euro). The Kingdom of the Netherlands has a long tradition in coastal management and marine engineering. With countries in the Kingdom that are being affected by sargassum, such as Curaçao and Sint Maarten, we have developed a strong knowledge foundation. This in combination with impressive innovations for collecting plastics in open water, Mexican stakeholders consider Dutch companies and organizations key players in turning sargassum into an opportunity." via LNV Attaché Netwerk

ESG, Sustainability, Responsible Sourcing | Driving Social Impact for Value Creation across Supply Chains | WIM100
Today, I had the privilege of attending the conference organized by ARPEL and Naturgas in Cartagena, Colombia. The discussions about the energy transition reached the highest level of analysis, exploring intriguing connections between agriculture, transportation, access to energy for social development and poverty alliviation, and the industry's role in the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy alternatives. Coming from a mining perspective, it's fascinating to observe how the energy sector is embracing a broader portfolio of solutions. Critical minerals are gaining attention, highlighting the importance of diversification in energy sources. Efficiency discussions led to ethical considerations such as food security, with aviation exploring fuels that don't compete with essential resources (biofuel) Maritime transportation emphasized to integrate effort as the need for efficiency in land transportation and from hear maritime continues, emphasizing the impact of fuel quality and available technologies in machinery with dual fuels. Geography plays a pivotal role, especially in Latin America, where connectivity faces challenges due to vast terrains, mountains and long disntaces. Collaboration across sectors is essential to overcoming these obstacles. As an expert in socio-economic development, I see immense value in building bridges in the energy transition to harness opportunities for development. Collaboration is crucial now more than ever, as solutions emerge from understanding and cooperation. It is inspiring how the diacussions are centering the attention in serving people, serving society in the process of protecting the environment. Thank you ARPEL team this is an amazing event!
