Minnesota State Community and Technical College is offering the first cannabis industry courses in northern Minnesota. The schools in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead, and Wadena will provide nine-week online classes for cannabis credentials. The content for the certificate programs will be provided by the cannabis training company Green Flower. According to Craig Beytien, M State's Vice President of Strategic Engagement, the choice to offer these programs at Minnesota State was considered low risk, with minimal upfront costs. The cannabis market is evolving, and M State believes it is a wise course to go. Minnesota, which legalized recreational marijuana use in 2023, plans to start retail sales in 2025, becoming the 23rd state in the country to do so. Analysts predict considerable job growth in the cannabis industry at the national level. Other educational institutions, like St. Cloud State University and St. Paul College, have previously announced plans to offer comparable certificate programs. Students enrolled in M State's online courses can earn credentials in cannabis production, retail, extraction, and product creation. Green Flower's Chief Growth Officer, Daniel Kalef, expressed enthusiasm for the relationship, adding that with adult-use cannabis now legal in Minnesota, there is a lot of interest in the growing cannabis business. The curriculum for the workshops will cover a variety of topics, including business skills, cannabis production, and product creation. Beytien sees potential expansion in the future, depending on demand, noting that it is normal for non-credit programs to evolve into diploma or degree-level courses in response to rising demand. The Power of Cannabis Role in Memory Retention: An Inspirational Journey I use #cannabis to help me study and retain information. While everyone's endocannabinoid system responds differently to cannabis use, cannabis has been a secret weapon in my educational arsenal. As an international student paying 25k a semester, I was always looking for ways to cut down on educational fees. I wrote to the academic review committee at the University of Guelph, Ontario Agricultural College. To double my course load per semester for the same 25k. The committee asked me if I'd like to kill myself as this is not something they recommend that students do. That very same year five students committed suicide on campus, which was heart breaking. I told the committee that I am funding my own education, my mum was murdered and my dad was in jail growing up. If I wanted to kill myself I'd do it long time ago. I was asking to double my course load on merit and asked they should review my grades and grant me based on that capability. I was successful in my appeal and was granted permission to do the impossible, double course load per semester until I graduate. I smoked cannabis to aid and abetting my memory retention capabilities and capacities. In record time, I graduated 🎓 for less than a fraction of the cost the average international students would normally pay. Since graduating I've occupied executive management roles throughout corporate Canada in the horticulture, silviculture and cannabis industries. My story serves as a testament to the diverse pathways individuals navigate in pursuit of education, resilience, and success. While my experience may not be a universal solution, it underscores the importance of recognizing and embracing unconventional strategies that align with individual strengths and circumstances.
