The path to implementing comprehensive cancer screening is often fraught with challenges. Common objections like "I don't have time," "I already have too much to do," or "I don't know where to start" can hinder healthcare providers from taking proactive steps. However, digital health tools can address these concerns by streamlining the screening process, offering clinical decision support, and providing educational resources that make starting easier and more efficient. Cancer risk assessment and precision prevention are particularly crucial when considering hereditary cancers, which show themselves through personal and family histories of cancer. The excuses against screening - from doubts about clinical benefit to feelings of unpreparedness in facing potential hereditary risks - must be countered with robust digital strategies that facilitate early detection and intervention. #precisionprevention #aheadofcancer Read more ⬇️

The age for getting cancer has lowered. Recent trends show a spike in cancer rates among adults under 50, highlighted by Princess Catherine's diagnosis at 42. Public health professionals emphasize the growing incidence of cancers typically less common in young people, including colorectal, cervical, breast, and endometrial cancers. The rise in cases necessitates a reevaluation of screening recommendations, with a push to lower the colonoscopy screening age to 45. This situation brings to light the critical need for accessible and non-invasive screening methods, like liquid biopsies, to accommodate the lifestyle and financial constraints of younger populations. Furthermore, the importance of early detection cannot be overstated, emphasizing the value of regular health check-ups and open discussions with healthcare providers. Princess Catherine's openness about her condition serves as a potent reminder of the reality of cancer risks across all age groups, challenging the myth of youthful invincibility.

The recent survey by the Prevent Cancer Foundation highlights a critical issue: over 20% of men don't schedule their own doctor appointments, and 65% are behind on routine cancer screenings. As a doctor, I urge men to take control of their health, prioritise routine screenings, and be proactive in scheduling appointments to prevent or detect cancer early for better outcomes. #lungscreen #health #cancer

The number of new cancer cases in the U.S. is expected to top 2 million this year for the first time… . New research noted that new cancer cases have significantly increased for the first time this year. . Additionally, there is a shifting pattern to younger patients, with an increase in overall incidence of cancer in those under 50 years of age. . A new study by the American Cancer Society showed that while cancer mortality dropped by 31% from 1991 to 2021, that overall incidence increased. . Along with this, racial disparities present barriers to progress. From 2016 to 2020 cancer incidence was highest amongst Black men, being 79% higher than the rate for Asian-American men who had the lowest rate. . “Racial disparities in cancer occurrence and outcomes are largely the result of structural racism, resulting in longstanding inequalities in wealth that lead to differences in exposure to risk factors and access to high-quality cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment,” the report says. . This latest report demonstrates alarming trends that which cannot be ignored. . As an oncology Nurse Practitioner, I see these trends in practice in real life with more and more younger patients being diagnosed, as well as, wide prevalence amongst various minority groups. . Continued efforts towards promoting cancer screenings, encouragement of physical exercise and consuming healthier foods are of key importance. . Recent reports reveal a critical crisis in NHS cancer care, with significant delays affecting hundreds of thousands of patients. Key findings include: - Cancer Research UK: Since 2015, 382,000 patients in England have experienced treatment delays due to staff and equipment shortages, missing the NHS target of starting treatment within 62 days. - Royal College of Radiologists: Workforce shortages are causing weekly treatment delays at nearly half of UK cancer centers, a figure that has almost doubled since last year. Addressing this crisis requires immediate solutions to reduce the burden on healthcare staff and improve patient outcomes. People in South Yorkshire with ‘red flag’ bowel cancer symptoms could be fast-tracked to hospital for diagnostic tests 🚩 Researchers at the University of Sheffield are leading a new study exploring the use of community pharmacies for faster bowel cancer detection in South Yorkshire. This innovative approach could revolutionise early diagnosis. The trial allows patients with potential bowel cancer symptoms to bypass the GP and access home testing kits directly through participating pharmacies. This not only benefits patients by expediting their care journey, but also helps alleviate pressure on the NHS. This study, funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, has the potential to significantly impact public health outcomes and healthcare efficiency. https://lnkd.in/e6aRBRES #BowelCancer #HealthcareInnovation #NHSEfficiency #YorkshireCancerResearch

Did you know that England is one of the only countries without a national cancer control plan? And that although there is a higher incidence rate of cancer in the UK than in many European states, there are proportionally fewer cancer care workers and less treatment equipment? These challenges - and others - are in laser focus of Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP and the new #Government which will announce a new plan to address these issues in the coming weeks. Here's our CEO, Paul Landau, talking about this issue and why digital must be an integral part of the new plan in Hospital Times featuring Natalie Bingham of LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare and Sarah Quinlan MBE of Radiotherapy UK: https://lnkd.in/eUG5mYuM What should the new plan include to help your healthcare organisation? #DigitalCancerCare #CancerControlPlan
