Tomorrow, I will facilitate the workshop “Nurturing Intelligence” at the VUB School of Thinking, Free University of Brussels. The post-academic students have already been on quite a self-reflective journey, including the exploration of co-thinking and embodied cognition. The trajectory challenges them to think differently, sharper, more fluidly, creatively, and together. My workshop is a deepening exploration of what it means to be this unique human being in a complex, uncertain and fully intertwined world. We will question how to take care of yourself and each other with respect to all our complex, interconnected #needs (the ongoing dance between safety and growth needs, you can read more via this link: https://lnkd.in/emAJhAQF) and at all levels of being human (exploring different expressions of, let’s say, our focus on self-preservation. Think for example of defending one’s physical integrity or actualizing the value of individual freedom through communal effort), nourishing intelligence multidimensionally and dynamically. What kind of emotional shadows, which might inhibit our full range and depth of intelligence, are insightful to recognize and work through? How do we actualize this - can we, should we? What kind of disintegration, 'darkness' or 'cracks in the dominant social systems' can we welcome? We will work experientially to integrate different insights and perspectives in the here and how of being ‘relationally you’, practicing among others #authenticpresence (to know more about this practice, please listen to this podcast: https://lnkd.in/ehWn8CQy). My intention is to co-create an inspirational workshop, a collaborate flow to inspire designing (constructing and deconstructing) one's own way of being alive in the ecosystem we call life. Let’s explore resonances and differences…. that make a difference 😊.

MODs are a much-beloved experience at #YSE - one that incoming students really look forward to and alumni remember long after they graduate. The New Haven Science-to-Solutions MOD introduces students to tools for understanding and addressing issues facing New Haven and many urban areas today - issues around water management, #urbanforestry, #environmentaljustice, climate mitigation, and wildlife conservation.

At Summer Orientation Modules, or MODs as they are known, incoming YSE students start to build a sense of community and gain knowledge and fundamental skills that help them succeed in their master’s programs.
In the New Haven MOD, students explore environmental problems facing the city (and many other urban areas) and look at tools for analyzing and managing those problems.
In today's era, many departmental societies and clubs have become mere groups where individuals are more focused on pulling others down rather than lifting each other up. Ironically, the so-called leaders often represent the very opposite of merit, serving as a reminder of what happens when the wrong values are prioritized. Instead of getting caught up in this environment, focus on building your skills and expertise through meaningful projects. True growth comes from what you create and contribute, not from navigating these unproductive power dynamics.
It can be frustrating to see people engage in activities that seem superficial or unproductive, especially on professional platforms like LinkedIn. The culture of showcasing certificates and joining groups, even when they don't add real value, is often driven by the pressure to appear accomplished or to conform to what others are doing.
However, it's important to focus on what truly adds value to your own career and personal growth. Quality over quantity is key. Engaging in meaningful learning experiences, building real skills, and connecting with people who inspire you can have a much more significant impact in the long run.
Dear Undergraduate Students stop wasting your time in departmental societies/clubs/groups and learn some skills of your field by doing multiple projects and then contribute good to society.
