UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Suceava Coordination We are pleased to share insights from our recent Accommodation Coordination Meeting held in Suceava. This crucial gathering brought together over 20 participants from public institutions, NGOs, and other vital stakeholders dedicated to addressing the ongoing needs of refugees in our community. 🔹 Objective: With the possible closure of the governmental accommodation program, our focus has intensified on identifying sustainable and alternative accommodation options for those most vulnerable among the refugee population. This meeting was a pivotal step in our ongoing efforts to ensure no one is left without a safe place to call home. 🏠 🔹 Collaboration: The spirit of cooperation was palpable as representatives from various sectors worked together, sharing insights and proposing innovative solutions. It's through such collaborative efforts that we can make significant strides towards inclusive support for all. 🤝 🔹 Moving Forward: We discussed a range of potential accommodations and are actively working towards implementing these solutions promptly. How can reskilling refugees in digital proficiency create a better future for those displaced from their homes? In January 2019, we were armed with a vision, not just to make a difference, but to transform lives. We approached the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency with an idea that was simple, yet profound: “Reskilling & Employing Refugees.” And that marked the beginning of a transformative journey. 💪 What started as a team of just 5 refugees in 2019 has now blossomed into an army of digitally proficient professionals, delivering tangible outcomes to clients globally. As we reflect on our humble beginnings, we are filled with gratitude for the belief and trust the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency had in our vision, and the unyielding spirit of the refugees who embraced this new journey. On June 20th, World Refugee Day celebrated the resilience of refugees worldwide. This was exploring their (Refugees') challenges, triumphs, and future under the theme 'In Solidarity With Refugees.' Mr. Charles Bafaki from the Office of the Prime Minister highlighted, "There are people in Uganda who are not citizens and they are not necessarily refugees unless they have sought asylum and been documented." He further pointed out, "You have situations in Europe and Asia, such as Ukraine, which are currently producing new refugees. While originally seen as an issue affecting African countries, it has now become a global issue. Refugees can emerge anywhere." John Mary Kisembo, Project Director at Jesuit Refugee Service, expressed concerns about the increasing number of refugees; "If they are self-settled, they must compete with nationals in education among others. A significant percentage of them are non-English speakers, which presents a major challenge." However, he also emphasized the positive outcomes of collaborative efforts; "As partners, with the support of the government, there have been successful language adoption programs that enable refugees to effectively communicate with the local community. This initiative fosters peaceful coexistence and helps meet their needs." The discussions and insights shared on World Refugee Day emphasized the importance of solidarity and support for refugees globally. Let's continue to work together to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all. #WorldRefugeeDay2024 #WorldRefugeeWeek
