An excerpt from Pour Your Heart Into It, published in 1997 by Howard Schultz. "Community giving is a policy to which we've been committed since we began in business. We do it because it's right and because it makes Starbucks partners proud to work here. At Starbucks, we're human, so we don't always hit the bull's-eye. But we strive to live our values...In fiscal 1996 we gave away more than $1.5 million in cash and kind, equalizing about 4 percent of our net earnings. Since we don't exploit these actions for public relations, a lot of our customers don't even know about them." The last sentence is incredibly powerful. Corporate impact, sustainability, CSR, ESG - whatever it's called doesn't matter. What they stand for, however, are becoming fundamentals of every business - but ensure you're doing it for the right reason. The same year the book was published, the Starbucks Foundation was established and still successfully operates today. The results? Starbucks Q4 reports and full fiscal year results were published today. Global store count is 39,038. Net Revenues up 11% to record $9.4 Billion. These actions are not short term quarter to quarter strategies. They're long term initiatives that can have incredible ramifications for not only your business but the world at large. #DEIB includes #humancentereddesign I gotta give credit where it's due & express gratitude for the effort. 📆 Beginning July 22nd, Walmart will be sensory mindful every Saturday from 8AM-10AM through the end of August. 🧘♀️During this window, stores will implement #accommodations such as dimming the lights. The music will be turned off & anything with moving images on screens will be turned into a stationary picture. ⚡️Sensory overload is distressing. There are restaurants, retailers, & venues that we can't patron due to their environments.
