We are calling for Latin American projects in the food arena to nominate for the world's biggest environmental award! The Curt Bergfors Food Planet Prize awards $2 million to a single winning project that significantly reduces the environmental impact of the way we eat. We were established in Sweden on August 30, 2019, in acknowledgment of the perils that our current food systems pose to the health of people and the planet and with the conviction that the ways we produce, distribute, and consume food must be radically and urgently reformed if future generations — and the planet itself — are to survive and thrive. Our vision is a well-nourished world population on a thriving planet. Immediate action is required. Unlike most other awards, we focus on future impact rather than past success. The prize can be awarded to individuals or organizations in both commercial and non-commercial settings. You can nominate your own initiative or someone else's. Right now we are looking for more groundbreaking Latin American projects! Nominations are always welcome, but as our selection process takes just over a year, to stand a chance of winning in 2025, submit your nominations before May 10, 2024. To meet our Europe Net Zero 2040 goal, we need to ⬇ reduce the environmental impact of our beverage packaging. Well-designed Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) are key to ♻ collect our cans and bottles. DRS helps to establish closed loops for beverage packaging and advance a circular economy. Take Malta: only 1 year after the 2022 launch of DRS, BCRS Malta has collected over 204 million beverage containers, achieving a collection rate of 79%. European countries with long-established DRS (such as the Nordics) usually report collection rates 📈 up to 95%. That’s why we are working with industry partners 🤝 in UNESDA - Soft Drinks Europe and other stakeholders to advance the introduction of DRS across Europe. This month the Romanian DRS scheme will go live, early next year Hungary and Ireland will be added to the list, bringing the total in the EU to 16 and more to follow . Enabling policy frameworks help to accelerate the introduction of DRS and as a result reduce climate impacts and contribute to a #WorldWithoutWaste. As they will adopt shortly their position on the #PPWR, we therefore call on Environment Ministers to maintain the obligation to set up DRS in each Member State and to only provide exemptions based on a 90% collection rate. #CircularEconomy #DRS #CocaColaEurope
