Today, we're featuring our wonderful friends at Cabot Creamery Cooperative. Here's what they have to say about being a B Corp: Cabot Creamery is a farmer-owned cooperative that’s been making award-winning products with love, pride and purpose for over a century. The high-quality milk produced by the Cabot farm families throughout New England and New York is crafted into dairy products including, “The World’s Best Cheddar.” As the first dairy co-op to become a certified B Corp, we care about how we do things, how we perform as a company and believe that our business can be a force for good. Cabot was drawn to B Corp certification for several reasons: self-accountability, community, and consumer confidence. The British Egg Industry Council has launched a manifesto ahead of the general election, calling on a future Government to help deliver the support the British egg industry needs for a sustainable future. The world-renowned British Lion Code of Practice is the UK’s most successful food safety scheme, representing a significant success story for British farming and accounting for around 95% of British egg production. The BEIC operates independently from Government support / subsidies. The BEIC’s key manifesto asks are: International Trade A ban on the import of eggs and egg products from systems of production that are prohibited in the UK. To recognise in future trade deals our higher costs of production due to legislation on food safety, animal welfare and the environment, and provide appropriate protection against lower standard imports. Environment Stronger collaboration between Government and industry to develop evidence-based solutions and the continued inclusion of the British egg industry in future grant funding, such as manure stores. Workforce Place key workers for the laying hen sector on the Skilled Worker visa: immigration salary list, and remove the Government cap on worker numbers. Biosecurity Ensure there are sufficient resources available through the Animal Plant and Health Agency (APHA) to help deal with future notifiable avian disease outbreaks and to bring compensation in line with other livestock species. Planning Meet the needs of the UK production base whilst protecting the environment through reform of the planning system, to enable the sector to grow and meet consumer demand. Public Procurement Promote British ingredients within food products, and across the public sector, through procurement in our schools, hospitals, and many other public institutions. Recently, our Plastic Free Places team member Jo collaborated with Beef Week on a trial focusing on reusable cups. The trial highlighted the utilisation of donated cups, mugs, and keep cups from the community, to achieve complete reusability. A dedicated vendor was engaged to exclusively use the donated cups for coffee and drinks. At the event, a camp kitchen was arranged, allowing attendees to prepare their own coffee. We provided a collection of reusable cups on the counter as an alternative to single-use ones. Additionally, wash-up tubs were made available, and we seized the opportunity to educate attendees on the significance of embracing reusables and the solutions available. The concept garnered positive feedback from attendees. Children actively participate in various activities during Beef Week, including cattle care, showing, and judging. They thoroughly enjoyed the trial with reusable cups, mirroring the enthusiasm of other attendees. The introduction of reusables was well-received overall. Events like Beef Week serve as pivotal case studies for fellow event organisers, showcasing the seamless transition from single-use cups to reusables. Beef Week underscores the community's eagerness to adopt more sustainable practices. This is a tall coffee tree though because it’s a Robusta coffee tree. They grow taller than their Arabica cousins. About 2 metres taller. But it’s the Liberica tree, which is the tallest of them all.
