Neuro-Developmental Optometrist | Specialist in Vision & Learning, Gifted, Concussion, Sports, Myopia and Dry Eye| Owner, Family Vision Care & Vision Therapy | Residency Trained | OVDRA Fellow| Tech Industry Consultant
This episode is a must see for primary care OD’s and VTOD’s for pearls and take aways to use in your practice tomorrow. Here are a few tips that stood out to me: 1. Level of symptoms are much greater with acquired eye movement problems vs developmental eye movement problems. 2. If nausea more than 5-10 minutes, can do vision rehabilitation. Otherwise it might be better doing a home VT program. 3. Learn about prescribing prism compensatory vs yoked vs creative combo prism. Might try a fresnel on just one side or on one eye in a certain gaze. 4. Don’t forget to call last doctor what was prescribed and what was the PD used. 5. Fix vertical first and see how much horizontal needed. 6. For TBI patients, first, expect eye health to be normal, second, check for dry eye as more TBI patients than the general population hsve dry eyes. 7. Ask good questions in addition to do you see blurry? Double? What symptoms do you have with certain tasks? You know it’s a smooth pursuit problem, if they have trouble scrolling. You know it’s a saccade problem if they have trouble going between two screens. And you know if there’s double vision, there’s probably a convergence or accommodative (pseudo CI) problem. 8. Do eye movements for a minute, otherwise you may miss the problem. You need to test longer as symptoms are usually illicited after 30-45 seconds! 9. Double vision is not a 20 minute complaint!! (I say: Schedule them back or refer) 10. Send letters about ALL patients to pc docs and make them short with only essential info. Thank you Dr. Theis and Dr. Allen!

Phenomenal talk. It’s not hateful to want to protect children from highly profitable, life-changing medical interventions and surgeries… sterility, loss of IQ & sexual orgasmic function…. that they cannot possibly consent to in an informed or any other way. I would posit that what we’ve witnessed since 2016 is a societal-wide mania… collective, narcissistic Munchausen by Proxy. A factitious disorder imposed on another, typically a child, in order to seek attention, prideful power or sympathy for the abuser - the drive to create symptoms for the victim (the belief in having a gendered soul in the wrong body) that result in unnecessary and costly diagnostic or corrective procedures. 🥳 Course highlight of the week! 🥳 This week, we spotlight a course that is especially helpful for forensic professionals that interact with individuals in the field. This lesson, entitled "Drug Impairment or Medical Condition?" is taught by Dr. Gerald (Wook) Beltran and explains the ways medical conditions may mimic drug impairment. Dr. Beltran uses realistic scenarios to illustrate different signs and symptoms you're likely to encounter during a traffic stop. The covered medical conditions include strokes, seizures, hypoglycemia, and more. It is imperative to recognize the differences between these two conditions in order to manage situations correctly and professionally. We hope you love this lesson as much as we do!

In a new blog post, MJLST Staffer Audrey Hutchinson analyzes the tension between legal and medical definitions of death, our fear of death and the discomfort in considering that maybe it’s not such a discrete status, and how technological advancements that can prolong both life and the process of dying may raise even more questions.
