This is our first peep behind the curtain of online streaming. Despite the level of detail these online services must possess on its audiences viewing habits, data has been notoriously scant. The excuse from the streaming services has been that the details are çommercial-in-confidence. However the cultural and financial impact of these juggernauts on screen production makes it imperative that they are open to question. The second half of the press conference was devoted to questions from the press to Netflix management. Let's hope this is the start. https://lnkd.in/erek8u8P

Netflix shared this week specific viewing numbers on its most popular shows from the first half of this year, something it has never done before. Netflix for the first time, has provided information about what people are watching more than any other streamer except YouTube. And seems they will go further by committing to publish from now on twice a year the “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report”, being a comprehensive report of what people watched on Netflix over a six month period, including: * Hours viewed for every title — original and licensed — watched for over 50,000 hours. * The premiere date for any Netflix TV series or film. * Whether a title was available globally. In total, this first report covered more than 18,000 titles — representing 99% of all viewing on Netflix from January to June 2023 — and nearly 100 billion hours viewed. Not only did Netflix share these detailed numbers report, but it even provided them in an Excel file, which is essentially inviting people to analyze the data for insights. This is a giant leap for Netflix and and for the VOD industry, and a way forward to share customer engagement data from now on transparently and publicly. #Netflix #VOD #Data #customer_engagement #Analytics

When news of Scott Stuber's departure from #Netflix broke last week, many of us wondered what this meant for the streaming giant. According to Matthew Belloni's recent article, it appears that Netflix is entering a new era, and calming down on their previously aggressive original film roll-out strategy. Perhaps the most intriguing moment in Belloni's piece was the revelation that even top-tier filmmakers like Chris Nolan are hesitant to work with Netflix. In fact, some filmmakers "feared" having to take a Netflix deal if no theatrical distributor stepped up. So what does this mean for the streamer? Will it open up a potential opportunity for other streaming platforms to fill in the gaps? Only time will tell, but it's clear that Netflix is facing a new set of challenges as it continues to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the entertainment industry. Check out Belloni's full article to learn more about Netflix's age of empire and what the future may hold for the company. #Netflix #ScottStuber #streaming #entertainmentindustry #originalcontent #streamingwars #entertainment #filmandtv

What if Netflix allowed you to upload 1000s of videos. Wesley Wang uploaded his short film "nothing, except everything" to YouTube. Then his life changed. The short went viral and he sold it to Sony pictures. Here's my pitch.. 1. Create a section on Netflix for creators to upload their cinematic films and series. 2. Provide an incentive for them to monetize through ads or subscriptions. 3. Build an algorithm that suggest creators based on quality of storytelling. Netflix and YouTube share 18% of streaming watch hours. Why not combine platforms. Got any tips to improve my pitch? Share them in the comments!
