Our Kinder Bridge program wraps up this week! Enrollment more than doubled this year with 274 incoming Kindergarten students getting a sneak peek at what they'll learn during the first month of school. We're proud to fully fund this early learning component of the Boulder Valley School District Summer Summit program.

The University of Colorado Boulder recognized Kristin Donley for her efforts to go above and beyond to support students as they pursue their higher education dreams. Kristin is certified in secondary science and STEM in the state of Colorado and currently serves as a science teacher at Arapahoe Ridge High School. Prior to becoming a BVSD Board of Education member in December, Lalenia Quinlan Aweida devoted her time to various initiatives aimed at safeguarding vulnerable individuals. From her involvement with Blue Sky Bridge, working in classrooms as a Sexual Assault Prevention Educator, serving as a Victim Advocate for the Sheriff’s Office, to her tenure with Moving to End Sexual Assault and her Restorative Justice work with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, it’s clear that Quinlan Aweida is committed to the well-being of Boulder and the surrounding community. “We have to address the primary problem of declining enrollment and what we're going to do to make sure our kids get a comprehensive education,” shared Quinlan Aweida. Alex Medler brings 32 years of experience advocating for education to the BVSD Board of Education. His professional path has been diverse, spanning roles in research, policy development, and advocacy. Notably, he played a pivotal role in shaping charter school policies - working closely with state and federal agencies to ensure that all children have access to quality education regardless of their background. “I came to education policy as a way to advance social justice,” expressed Medler. “For me, it's part of an effort to ensure that everyone feels empowered to control what they do with their life and that they have the options to be successful.” Read more: https://trst.in/babLBN
It’s Teacher Tuesday, and we are spotlighting Boulder Valley School District’s Jared Riesel -- a teacher librarian at Eldorado PK-8 School who has been an educator for 16 years! “Being a teacher librarian offers an opportunity to amplify the amazing things happening in classrooms and bring my own expertise and interests into the mix,” Jared said. “I love creating memorable, engaging learning experiences for students.” The most rewarding part of teaching is building relationships with students and families, he said. “I love learning about students as individuals and developing that trust over the years." Outside of school, Jared enjoys cooking, playing music, traveling, reading and spending time with family.
Ash Mattys sees her job as more than teaching language arts. She’s there to ensure her students feel seen. “What I needed when I was their age was for someone to tell me that it was going to be okay,” shared Mattys. “I want them to know that I see their uniqueness and remind them that they are resilient.
