We’re proud to join ButcherBox and other industry leaders in opposing the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act (S.2019 and H.R.4417) and any version of this legislation. If passed, this bill would overturn two state laws, California Prop 12 and Massachusetts' Question 3, which require farm animals to be raised without cruel, intensive factory farming practices, such as gestation crates and other confinement systems that limit the room to roam freely. The EATS Act directly challenges common-sense animal welfare regulations—and our values as an organization.   We’re proud to join ButcherBox and other industry leaders in opposing the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act (S.2019 and H.R.4417).   If passed, this bill would overturn two landmark animal welfare laws: Prop 12 in California and Question 3 in Massachusetts. Both laws prohibit the sale of eggs, veal, or pork in their respective states from animals that were confined in small spaces.   At Applegate Farms, we have always exceeded the standards set by Prop 12 and Q3.   Our bacon comes from farms where pigs have plenty of space, light and fresh air. As of June 2024, 378 companies have committed to the #EuropeanChickenCommitment, a science-based chicken welfare policy: https://bit.ly/3ytBCkv This means the chicken in their supply chains will benefit from better #AnimalWelfare standards, listed here in the commitments that were signed by a number of animal protection NGOs, including #EurogroupforAnimals: https://bit.ly/40lKuB1 #BroilerChickens suffer in their billions in the EU and beyond. Addressing the most pressing issues they face on #FactoryFarms, including fast growth and high stocking densities, is critical for their welfare moving forward. It's great to see that hundreds of companies are taking these problems with the seriousness they deserve. It's time for policy-makers to follow suit. We call on the European Commission to draft much stronger laws for broiler chickens as part of its full revision to the animal welfare legislation, using the European Chicken Commitment as a framework for policy-making.
