Amidst the holiday season and scheduled time off, our group temporarily paused our regular activities. Now reunited, we are immersing ourselves once again in the pages of "Weaving Two Worlds." Recent chapters have ignited conversations within our team, particularly focusing on how to engage and how, when & why to use agreements.
In summary, our discussions ignited meaningful conversations & awareness around the importance of approaching conversations with respect, listening actively, time, and trust.
Understanding that there may be a potential lack of internal personnel within businesses in the resource sector who can effectively guide meaningful engagements and an opportunity to foster open and honest communication from both sides – how can we support early, often, and transparent engagement? What does early engagement look like – is there alignment, efficiencies, and revenue generating opportunities for the Nations and/or producers. Acknowledging that these agreements are a gradual process, requiring time and trust. This echoes the sentiment “trust can take years to build and a moment to lose” or “a lie can travel half-way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes”
Collectively, we recognize the commitment involved and the need to stay on course. The underlying question is whether the parties at the table are deserving of the benefit and gift of trust. With all of this in mind we continue to ask ourselves, how can we do better?
