Startups like ColdHubs are cutting food waste by providing solar-powered cold storage to farmers. School children are leading recyclinguinitiatives in their communities. But much more work remains. Expanding access to clean energy, preventing deforestation, improving waste management systems, and restoring damaged ecosystems are some key focus areas. Stronger regulations and enforcement, corporate responsibility, and grassroots activism can drive change. The health of our economy and communities depends on living sustainably with the natural environment. We must draw inspiration from indigenous practices and innovative solutions worldwide. Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Ajuri Ngelale @AjuriNgelale, met with an executive from BURN Manufacturing, a vertically integrated clean cooking stove company with a factory in Kano and another opening soon in Lagos. Ajuri emphasised that clean cooking stoves could extend lifespans, create wealth and generate carbon credits, addressing climate and health crises in Nigeria. This what we continually advocate for, seeking all and sundry towards understanding that it's a thing that we have to embrace and start taking measures that are pragmatic towards curbing the climate crisis,both as individuals and collectively.As this was part of my discussion with Nisreen Elsaim 3 year's ago,when I told her that,anytime i take the popular pure water or sachet water sold in Nigeria , I put the sachet in my bag,as public waste beings are not strategically placed in Nigeria,and its a project which I've written to several platforms seeking for collaborations,but to no avail.As by this means,am seeking for partners we could embark on this project,starting with the FCT,Abuja #climateadvocacy

Considering Alternatives Your emphasis on considering alternatives like biogas is spot on. The reality is that not everyone can be absorbed into the workforce by large corporations, and we shouldn't expect them to. Instead, by fostering a culture that values and invests in alternative solutions like biogas, we can create new opportunities that align with global sustainability goals (SDG 7 and SDG 13). Flashback to the memorable commissioning of 3 Solar-Powered Motorized Water Infrastructures in Eruwa, New Eruwa and Lanlate communities. It was an Epoch-making day in Ibarapa East LGA of Oyo State as Guinness Nigeria Plc in partnership with Water Aid Nigeria commissioned 3 solar-powered motorized water infrastructures in Eruwa, New Eruwa and Lanlate communities on the 2nd of November 2023. The infrastructures have the capacity to produce water in tens of millions of litres per annum and are poised to serve about 11,500 residents; the project was designed to be gender inclusive with a community WASH committee comprising of 57% women who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the 3 facilities as well as their long-term sustenance. Friday 9 February, 2024. I met Mallam Abdullah a subsistence farmer who rely on annual rain fed crops to satisfy his basic family needs. Mallam Abdullah just like many other small holder farmers in north west Nigeria are faced with extreme weather events such as drought and heatwave especially in sokoto. The over reliance on chemical fertilizer and open burning practices of wastes further increase soil degradation, crop diseases and their vulnerability to climate risks. Climate risk is a global issue, and of course a contributor to food insecurity. Sometimes in 2021 UNICEF estimated that about 2.9 million people are currently critically food insecure in north west Nigeria. What can we do to help Mallam Abdullah and other farmers affected by these problems. Our startup adopts two pronged approach. firstly, we collect and co process these wastes into bio organic fertilizer, directing it from harmful open burning practices and the immediate threat of environmental pollution. Secondly, we produce biochar a carbon rich substance that helps revitalize the soil and also act as carbon sink. We have aligned our venture with the SDGs 2(zero hunger) 9(industry, innovation & infrastructure) and 13(climate action). Nigeria is reportedly the 53rd most vulnerable country to climate change, and the 179th most ready country to adapt, according to the Notre Dame-Global Adaptation Initiative Country Index for 2021. Around 41 million people, an estimated 24% of Nigeria's population, reside in areas with high climate exposure (World Bank, 2021). The impact of climate change on food systems can be quite profound. It can disrupt food availability, reduce access to food, and affect food quality. The expected rise in temperatures, alterations in extreme weather patterns, and water shortage can all lead to a decline in agricultural productivity.   To meet the growing food demands of Nigeria's population amidst the challenges posed by climate change, it is crucial to adopt sustainable land management practices. These practices include zero tillage, responsible use of fertilizers, avoiding bush burning, managing grazing lands, preventing deforestation, and improving water management. If they want their programs to be sustainable they can create community impact project partnering with cooking gas sellers and biogass experts and make it sellable after doing all legals around making the cooking gas sellable. 2. CONSIDER ALTERNATIVES: I'm not trying to be offensive but we must know that bigger brands can't recruit everyone job hunting now. They have really tried and I know they'll do a good work of keeping their company running. So considering alternative like biogass and encouraging it from small to medium to large scale should be our priority. Doing this automatically advocates SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and provides locals with SDG 13 (Decent Work and Economy Growth).
