Environmentally Sustainable Procurement (ESP) Policy and Reporting Framework Launched. Great advocacy work Green Building Council of Australia to help drive sustainable procurement practices forward in Australia. I'm delighted that Green Star certification is included as a way for building and fitout projects to demonstrate achievement of benchmarks in against all three focus areas of the ESP policy - climate, circularity and recycling. Using Green Star for new building projects also aligns with the Australian Government’s Net Zero in Government Operations policy, released last year. Accompanying the ESP policy is the reporting framework for Phase 1 – Construction services, which provides details on which rating tools and metrics for suppliers should to commit to using as a way of demonstrating how they will achieve relevant ESP sustainability outcomes. Launched today by the Australian Government, the new Environmentally Sustainable Procurement (ESP) Policy is an impressive step forward for Australia. Under this policy, businesses and suppliers engaging with the Australian Government must demonstrate their capacity to deliver a range of outcomes in three focus areas: climate, environmental and circularity. Green Star certification has been named a preferred pathway in the policy, suggested for projects to hit the benchmark for all three areas! The criteria which projects now need to meet include: - Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in operations and construction - Reducing the amount of landfill waste by increasing recyclability - Increasing the amount of recycled content in purchased materials. Two Territory businesses have received funding under the Circular Economy NT (CENT) grant program for projects that will improve the Territory’s waste recycling and reprocessing capabilities. OSTOJIC GROUP PTY LTD will use their grant to purchase new crushing and screening technology to develop recycled road base and other high valuable products suitable for reuse by the construction industry. @Remote Industries Australia Pty Ltd will use their grant to set up a concrete recycling facility in Tennant Creek to service the Barkly region. CENT supports local projects that create opportunities to grow the Territory economy by turning waste into a valuable commodity and it is a key element of the NT Circular Economy Strategy 2022-27.
