🆘 HELPING REFUGEES AROUND THE WORLD 🔗 https://lnkd.in/guTVkavu 📌 George Stroumboulis sits down with Pare Gerou on the Invigorate Your Business with George Stroumboulis Podcast to talk about Greece's 1st Cohousing Community, finding the perfect location and building the community. Stream on Spotify, YouTube and Apple. 🗣 You're not just some random person that came here to do co-housing, extremely successful in what you've done over the years, like highly educated lawyer, right. I'm very cause oriented. I mean, this really isn't a development or real estate development project. This is, you know, a model of another way to live, and so for me it's a cause and um, that's been where I've found my value in life promoting causes that I believed in and being kind of entrepreneurial around them. That I believed in and being kind of entrepreneurial around them. I started um. I started my career out of law school and instead of practicing law, I actually created a refugee resettlement agency for a large NGO, International Rescue Committee, and it still exists and is thriving. 🎙️ Follow 'Invigorate Your Business' for more updates. Report here: https://lnkd.in/gGYNdfc8 925 000 is 37% of Toronto. The GTHA would likely be the same percentage, given similar climate and lifestyle. Toronto Foundation wants you to do something about it with $1k microgrants. However, "activities cannot be used to generate any revenue". How can scaling impact be generated without growing and earning money from said impact, in this capitalistic economy system? Apply here: https://lnkd.in/gK3jAz34
According to the Toronto Foundation's Vital Signs report, 37% of Torontonians feel lonely at least 3 days/week. At Together Project, we match refugee newcomers with volunteers to build social connections and support integration. Interested in joining us? This lovely family & their bunny, Bonix, are just one of many examples of why this work is so important. Helping families reunite, build safe spaces to heal, and receive support to carry on is central to the work the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City does. 💛 Consider supporting this work by making a gift before the year ends at Rescue.org/GiveSLC. Learn about other opportunities to get involved at Rescue.org/SupportSLC.
Meet Bonix — the rabbit helping this refugee family settle in and heal after leaving their home in Venezuela. 💛 The Da Nara family did not have an easy journey to safety. After facing instability and insecurity Rafael, the girls’ father, knew it was time to leave. He then made the journey to the United States to seek asylum alone, knowing he’d send for his wife and daughters when he’d found a safe place to stay. After 18 months, the family was reunited in Utah, where the IRC helped connect them with housing and education resources. Now, they’re pursuing new ‘hoppertunities’ in their new home—and have added a new family member along the way. 🐰

Join us in watching this powerful video showcasing the strength, courage, and resilience of refugees. Despite challenges, they rise above adversity, rebuilding their lives with an unwavering spirit. This video is a part of a series of videos produced by the Refugee Readiness Team at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria. We invite you to listen to these stories of the hosts and landlords of Vancouver Island who shared their experience of hosting and renting to refugees. These videos are a testament to the fact that renting to refugees is a rich and rewarding, experience that brings diversity and togetherness into our community. We extend warm gratitude to those who contributed their stories and allowed us to create these videos. Your experience is incredibly valuable in breaking down housing barriers and encouraging more landlords to consider renting to refugees. By sharing these stories, it is our wish to encourage homeowners to learn about the importance of welcoming refugees into our communities and the positive impact they have. Hope you enjoy these stories as much as we did. Want to learn more about the work we do? Exciting update on the inaugural 'Refugee Impact Bond' in Jordan. The Refugee Impact Bond funds a micro-enterprise creation program by the Near East Foundation (NEF) which aims to help vulnerable Jordanians and Syrian refugees recover their livelihoods and build resilience. This summer, the Refugee DIB’s independent evaluator surveyed a sample of grantees from the program’s first cohort. The survey measured various outcomes related to grantees’ businesses, as well as their employment status and income from employment. The results highlights are: 💠 98.5 percent of the first cohort of grantees remained engaged in an active income-generating activity, significantly exceeding the target set for the DIB’s primary payment metric. 💠 9 in 10 grantees reported that their businesses generated profits during the calendar month preceding the survey. In 2021, Welcome.US was founded with one hypothesis: by mobilizing the private and civic sectors and empowering Americans to help resettle newcomers, we would find the national capacity—and the commitment—to welcome more people in need of refuge in ways that ensure they and their new communities would thrive together. Our hypothesis has proven true faster than we ever imagined. In just over two years, the United States has moved from a government system that welcomed just 11,400 refugees through the formal refugee resettlement system to an expansive public-private partnership that has welcomed nearly 500,000 refugee newcomers in safe, orderly ways in 11,000 zip codes across all 50 states. Welcome.US partners include Lions Clubs International and leaders like Mahesh Chitnis, Rotary International and leaders like Joyce Graff, over 240 veteran and faith groups, community, refugee and diaspora-led organizations. Private and civic sector partners have innovated on employment, housing, flights, and matching grants for sponsors—and those sponsors have contributed an estimated $7 billion of their own time and money to support newcomers arriving in the United States. In story after story, we hear how this act of welcome transforms both the lives of newcomers, and the lives of those who welcomed them. Read more about our impact this year. 🏡 Home is where the heart is… RIGHT? But what if your heart is shattered and your new neighbours turn their backs? Today is #WorldRefugeeDay. The theme for the Refugee Week Festival this year is “Our Home.” https://lnkd.in/eGE8uvme Think about what home means to you. Home isn't just a physical space—it's a feeling. It’s a sense of community and belonging. For too many refugees, the journey to find a new home is fraught with challenges, heartache, and trauma. These journeys get increasingly perilous the longer time goes on. We know how treacherous the journey can be for refugees across the world— remember that’s not a life choice decision. So imagine the brutality they are trying to escape to even consider these horrific experiences. 🚨 The UN has cited that we are living in the WORST TIME IN HISTORY FOR HUMANITY: 120 million people have been forcibly displaced globally. This includes refugees, asylum seekers, and internally displaced people. ❗We need to be better global citizens; open our community doors and wrap our arms around this vulnerable population to help them create a new sense of home. ❤️ Home is not defined by walls but by the warmth, safety and acceptance we extend to one another. 🤟🏼 We need to create a healthier version of "Our Home" into reality, one small act of kindness at a time. The illustration below from World Refugee week is a cool place to start. 🌍 We need to do a lot better. 👉🏼 Start now. #Community #BetterTogether #TheHumanDifference _______________ ALT text embedded in image
