Uisce Éireann Irish Water is a brillant place to learn huge array of things about water and wastewater and how we bring clean safe drinking water to 1.7 million homes and 178,000 businesses. We’re a regulated business with significant commitments to deliver a resilient water services. We’ve Customer teams, a huge Operations Team who have real challenges every day to keep the water flowing. We also deliver huge strategic programmes with over 8,000 different assets from reservoirs, to pumping station, water and wastewater treatment plants and a whopping 63,000 kilometres of water pipes, much of it old and in need of upgrade. Our graduates will be exposed to the science bit, hydreology, laboratory testing of water, how we build and manage vast amount of infrastructure, to energy and to the future using renewable energy sources. Uisce Éireann Irish Water use 20% of all electricity in the public sector, to keep all of our assets running. They will also learn about leakage, about communications, finance, corporate governance, regulation and the required HR Strategy and Safety Strategies, led by our People & Safety Director, Dawn O'Driscoll They will also learn about the complexity of IT transformation and the business services and systems needed to run a complex and growing business like ours. It’s brillant to welcome our new graduates. Please ask us all plenty of questions. There is so much to learn. You’re joining a team with a brillant purpose; led by CEO Niall Gleeson and that is to enable communities all over Ireland to thrive by supporting economic growth and development and connecting much needed new homes, to a sustainable resilient water supply. The work landscape is changing fast. Some suggest that by 2030 the concept of a 9 to 5 will be extinct - perhaps it’s a bit aggressive but regardless of how many years it’s going to take - the way we work and how we work is changing. One of my beliefs is that portfolio careers are going to play a critical role within this new structure, whether you are a generalist, specialist, multihyphante or innovator the way you approach building your career will change. Personally, I find this outlook refreshing. Being confined by a straight line career ladder never felt natural to me. What are you thoughts on this view?

I’ve had many career pivots. And some of them have been hard. One of them started 3 years into my first job after college. So in this time when we expect many people in the real estate industry to make a major career pivot, I care deeply about how they navigate this challenge ahead. I also care deeply about how our new graduates will find their way in this environment. You’ve all seen me post a lot of big job openings over the last few months. And now, I’m picking up a new energy and need to talk more about tbe future of workplace and real estate careers. We’re going to see a lot of change, and it’s going to be an exciting and also tumultuous time for the industry. But it’s times like this when the major opportunities for the future are born, so let’s talk about it. Read on to learn more about Zach. 1. How do you approach personal growth and continuous learning in your role? Once you master the core responsibilities of your role, continue to push boundaries to expand upon your knowledge. Ask questions to better understand different processes and reflect on the “why” to identify potential opportunities for enhancements. Test out different ideas in order to make things more efficient for your team. 2. What is one professional skill you would like to develop or are actively developing? Communication is a skill that I always focus on developing. It is important to display excellent communication skills in relations with colleagues and clients. Communication is crucial to foster collaboration and create a cohesive team. It promotes transparency and ultimately enhances productivity and organizational success. I believe it is the single most essential skill that I will always continue to develop. 3. If you could share some advice with your younger self, what would it be? Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Do not be afraid to take on different tasks and opportunities that may present themselves because you feel a certain level of uncertainty. Develop a growth mindset and embrace the challenges of the unknown to strive to be the best version of yourself. 4. As a child, what career did you want to have when you “grew up?” When I was younger, I wanted to become a veterinarian. I grew up with dogs since I was born and loved spending time with all of them. I wanted a job being surrounded by animals and taking care of them. 5. What is at the top of your bucket list? As an avid soccer fan, I want to attend a World Cup game.
