Once frequently an overlooked issue within the humanitarian community when preparing for and responding to disasters, the #IFRC Asia Pacific MHPSS Collaborative, Danish Red Cross and Hong Kong Red Cross are coming together to support Nepal Red Cross Society in addresing the #MHPSS needs of people during crises. In #Nepal, one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries, which is also being disproportionately affected by the #climatecrisis, these efforts are essential. #DevolutionWednesday Tharaka Nithi County CSOs Network: Advocating for Inclusive Development Planning In line with Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, county governments have the mandate to develop both long-term and short-term plans to facilitate service delivery. One such plan is the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), a 5-year blueprint that sets the county’s development priorities across various sectors. While the CIDP is crucial for effective service delivery, the involvement of Tharaka Nithi's public and non-state actors in previous plans was less than ideal. Challenges in Previous CIDPs: 🔹Limited Public Participation – The public was often unaware of their role in shaping development priorities. 🔹Selective Engagement – Public consultations were restricted to select venues, mainly hotels, and invitations were limited. 🔹Non-involvement of CSOs – Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) were notably absent from the planning process, despite their critical role in representing local interests. 🔹Exclusion of Marginalized Groups – Key vulnerable populations were not adequately involved, resulting in their priorities being overlooked for the past decade. The CSOs in Tharaka Nithi stepped up, ensuring inclusive participation in the development of the CIDP. The goal was to ensure every voice, especially from marginalized communities, was heard and prioritized. 🌍 Spotlight on Nigeria: The Middle Belt Brain Trust 🇳🇬 Since its establishment in the fall of 2018, the Nigeria Middle Belt Brain Trust (MBBT), an initiative of the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT), has been a key actor in catalysing positive change and conflict reduction in the Middle Belt region. Comprising local specialists in inter-religious dialogue, mediation, community development and justice reform, the MBBT is dedicated to addressing structural challenges that significantly impact the region's peace and prosperity. 🌐 Focused Approach: The MBBT has concentrated its efforts on the eastern half of the Middle Belt, encompassing Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, Taraba and southern Kaduna states. It lets us tell stories with a depth of emotion that generic comms can’t quite grab; it can communicate the full essence of a brand. B2B needs this; people buy from people and trust brands that feel human. If you're trying to influence purchasing decisions worth millions of pounds, selling life-long careers, or promoting true social value and mobility; a LinkedIn post and canva document just doesn't cut it anymore. This piece was an exception at 8 minutes long, longer than we would typically produce for this type of distribution, but it just worked.
