🚀 Space is an increasingly #militarised domain, and armed forces are more and more relying on private companies for #space capabilities. In particular, SpaceX has become central by deploying #Starlink in #Ukraine and by providing several services to the US military. 🇪🇺 Concurrently, the #EU signed a contract with SpaceX to launch its Galileo satellites, and concluded a parallel security agreement with the US. Blue Origin Joins the Big Leagues In a significant shift, the U.S. Space Force has awarded Blue Origin a share of its National Security Space Launch (NSSL) contracts, marking the first time a company other than SpaceX and United Launch Alliance (ULA) will launch military payloads. This move, part of the NSSL Phase 3 strategy, aims to increase competition and innovation in the military launch sector. The Space Force has adopted a "dual-lane" approach for its launch needs: Lane 1:  Focuses on "commercial-like" missions with higher risk tolerance. Blue Origin, SpaceX, and ULA are vying for a share of at least 30 missions valued at $5.6B over the next 5 years. The European Defence Agency has brought together two #EU Member States to develop a #satellite demonstrator that can manoeuvre from Low Earth Orbit (#LEO) to Very Low Earth Orbit (#VLEO) – and back again. The €10 million project – called LEO2VLEO: Military Crisis-Response Satellite Constellation – with the Netherlands and Austria, will design, develop, launch and operate a constellation of between two and four satellites. It aims for a space launch in two years time. Happy to hear we are deploying more EW assets. EW jammers are an important option needed to provide military options that could be part of a multi layered space deterrence and warfighting force we need. Mobility is also an excellent trait if the reporting is accurate. Not sure these numbers are sufficient to counter everything that China has on orbit (hundreds according to recent Space Force comments) and we should have other nonkinetiic and kinetic options too for credibility of deterrence and war winning capabilities in the minds of adversaries, but.....it's a good start.
